IANT IMAM

JOB DESCRIPTION Islamic Association of North Texas

In this prominent position, the imam will play a leadership role in building an exemplary community and institution. He will work with the IANT Board of Directors to develop IANT strategy and implement its vision of Islam in America.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:

(1) Grow the Community Spiritually and Religiously (TARBIYYAH):

 Lead FAJR, and ISHA’ prayers and deliver KHATIRAHS (spiritual lessons) at least three times a week.

 Be accessible to community members individually or in groups after prayers and during daily set office hours; the Imam will be a formal resource for religious consultation and counselling.

 Join community members for important life events (e.g. NIKAAHS, funeral prayers, hospital visits etc.) whenever possible.

 Conduct Friday and Eid KHUTBAHS.

 Conduct an ‘ILM and TARBIYYAH workshop once every quarter for each group

of youth including IQA (IANT Qur’anic Academy) students, sisters and mass

congregation (giving total three workshops per quarter).

 Grow IANT Staff as a spiritual team.

(2) Guide youth director and women’s committee to train and empower youth including IQA (IANT Qur’anic Academy) students, and women in the community for them to effectively lead religious programs in the community.

(3) Represent IANT Publicly:

 Represent IANT in interfaith, intra-faith, political and media settings.

 Build strong relationships with Texan Muslim leaders, interfaith/intra-faith

leaders, and public officials.

 Work with SUFFA to train leaders in the community to represent IANT at

outreach events

(4) Provide monthly executive summary to the IANT president of the activities and reflect

upon the needs of the community moving forward.

Qualifications:

 The imam will have at least three to five years of professional knowhow, including working with a congregation with over 500 attendees at Friday prayers.

 The imam will have the following experience and attributes: Credentials:

• Preference will be given to candidates born or raised in the USA

 A formal degree from an accredited Islamic learning, strong TAJWEED and deep study of most SURAHS of Qur’an.

 Comprehensive knowledge of Islamic Fiqh, Sunnah and Shari’ah.

 Qur’an Hafiz or the one who has memorized most SURAH of Qur’an.

• An undergraduate degree, preferably in psychology, sociology, or other social sciences, graduate studies will get preference.

• Demonstrated understanding and working with the American-Muslim context, with diverse ethnic groups, and the four primary FIQH schools of Islamic Jurisprudence

• Record of oratory excellence and experience in basic level of management

• Champions the needs of the sidelined groups (youth, women, and new Muslims).

• Builds and maintains unity among community’s wide variety of races, political

affiliations, ethnicities, sects, FIQH schools of Islamic Jurisprudence, immigration status,

socio-economic status, gender, and age.

• Attend quarterly congregation meeting to answer religious and FIQH questions.

• Provide quarterly progress report to Operational Council reflecting on major activities.

Salary

Based on education, experience and proven qualifications.
