MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED. One year of teaching experience in an educational, dance studio and/or community setting. Experience working with K-12 students with various learning abilities. Bi-lingual suggested but not required.
NATURE OF WORK
This position requires flexibility and effective communication with the lead dance teacher in order to continue providing instruction while lead dance teacher is unable to teach regularly scheduled class. The substitute teacher is responsible for carrying out lesson plans developed by lead teacher. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to sharing their art practice with others and should enjoy working with children and families.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Reviewing, learning, and executing lead dance teacher s lesson plans when called upon to teach class in lead teacher s absence.
Communicating with lead teacher to ensure thorough understanding of lesson plan, goals etc.
Deliver class content in age-appropriate manner while maintaining a positive attitude.
Communicating any student/parent concerns to SMDCAC education staff and lead dance teacher. Asking for support/assistance from SMDCAC education staff when needed.
Assisting lead teachers and SMDCAC education staff with the dance program session s final showcase.
Participating in professional development and training opportunities when offered.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Skill in public speaking, giving presentations, and designing programs.
Skill in utilizing computer software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to prepare and maintain required reports and records.

Ability to develop visual aids and other instructional materials to meet specific program and learning needs.
Ability to mediate differences in opinions of varying individuals and foster consensus on diverse issues.
Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately, orally and in writing with various individuals and groups.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, community groups, educators, school children, parents, civic associations, and the general public as necessitated by the work.
Ability to multi-task and handle more than one project at a time.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver s License. Ability to drive within Miami-Dade County will be required, must provide own transportation. Employees in this position are expected to be able to perform any and all work tasks and comply with any work schedules or attendance or duty requirements. Successful candidates must have availability to work during after school hours/evenings on an as needed basis.
Rate: $50/per class
