Job description: The Instrument Technician tests and calibrates controlling, indicating, and measuring instruments and devices to ensure specified operating performance using hand tools, testing, and calibration instruments and equipment, and precision measuring instruments. As a function of this position, the Instrument Technician may be involved with the generation, collection, storage, and preparation of shipments of hazardous waste.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Testing and calibrating controlling, indicating, and measuring instruments and devices to ensure specified operating performances, using hand tools, testing and calibrating instruments and equipment, and precision measure instruments based on the established Preventive Maintenance program.
  • Maintaining documentation of all calibration activities in compliance with established written procedures as set forth in the ISO 9000 standard and/or other pertinent maintenance procedures related to Preventive Maintenance activities.
  • Selecting and installing accessories on test or calibration fixtures, and connecting instruments or devices to fixtures according to specifications.
  • Observing meters and gauges or other displays to identify functional defects and determine calibration requirements to adjust calibration mechanisms to obtain specified operational performance.
  • Rejecting malfunctioning devices and installing new devices while routing malfunctioning devices for rework or salvage.
  • Patrolling the production areas, inspecting equipment for potential and actual hazards, wear, leaks, and other conditions requiring maintenance or shut down.
  • Maintaining and achieving safety and environmental regulations during maintenance activities with compliance to all regulatory permits.
  • Responding to verbal, written, or electronic instructions from Supervisor and/or Maintenance Planner/Scheduler.
  • Maintaining work areas to acceptable standards of housekeeping and sanitation.
  • Conducting and documenting as required, inspections on safety equipment, process equipment, and forklifts.
  • Other related to the position.

Requirements:

  • High School education. Electrical training or any community college electrical program is an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an industrial electrical and/or instrumentation field.
  • Knowledge of safety awareness, calibration, instrumentation repair, instrument maintenance, and instrumentation familiarity (lab and field).
  • Knowledge of process instrumentation calibration equipment and methods. Knowledge of NBS (National Bureau of Standards) traceability and application to calibration record keeping.
  • Knowledge of instrument repair planning process on computerized maintenance management system. Knowledge to perform reliability measurements (MTBR, MTTR etc.) and their use in preventive, predictive maintenance. Ability to develop maintenance strategy, addressing spare parts, vendor stocking.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $32.00 - $35.00 per hour
