Job Description:
The NY/NJ High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (NY/NJ HIDTA) is a federally funded program of the Office of National Drug Control Policy. The mission of the HIDTA Program is to enhance and coordinate America's drug-control efforts among local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in order to eliminate or reduce drug trafficking and its harmful consequences in critical regions of the United States. The New York County District Attorney's Office serves as the fiduciary for the NY/NJ HIDTA. The Analyst will be an employee of the New York County DA's Office, assigned to the US Attorney's Office, EDNY.

The Investigative Analyst will perform investigative and intelligence analysis relating to legal matters of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) to support the overall mission of combatting violent crime, gun violence, drug trafficking and the overdose epidemic.

Duties will include:

  • Review reports, raw data, video evidence, documents, and records for useful information and analyze for potential criminal activity
  • Develop and project data, draw conclusions, and estimate probabilities based upon knowledge of current and past intelligence situations and an understanding of the significance of conditions and trends
  • Review and analyze large volumes of electronic evidence
  • Conduct complex analysis into violent gangs and drug trafficking organizations using advanced structured analytic techniques.
  • Research and compile raw data from various law enforcement systems, government databases, publicly available information, and other sources of information to enhance the identification and development of major investigations, operations, analytic projects, patterns, and trends specific to violent crime, gun violence, drug trafficking and the opioid overdose epidemic.
  • Analyze documentary and other evidence, including social media, cell-site, call detail and financial records, to develop a comprehensive understanding of the details of ongoing criminal investigations.
  • Use analytic tools such as Analyst Notebook, Penlink and other software programs to conduct analysis of social media and search warrant returns for corroborating evidence.
  • Prepare timelines, charts and graphs as necessary to support federal prosecutions.
  • Testify in court as necessary. Court testimony typically relates to the incumbent’s approach, methodology, analyses, conclusions, recommendations, and results of case-specific research projects.
  • Work collaboratively with Federal, State and Local law enforcement to manage and conduct significant investigations.
  • Travel to meetings and conferences to gather and share information with partners.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience working in law enforcement.
  • Solid command of MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, including experience in formatting and design of reports, link charts, graphs, and tables.
  • Experience and knowledge of Cellebrite and Camtasia programs preferred.
  • Experience analyzing call detail records and location data preferred.
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability explain analytical processes to laypersons through testimony as a witness before the court preferred.

Benefits: The selected candidate will be hired as an employee of the New York County District Attorney’s Office and will receive the standard benefits of a city employee.

Background Check: The individual hired for this position will require full field background investigation to be conducted by the New York County District Attorney’s Office as well as a secret level Federal clearance. Continued employment is contingent upon the successful adjudication of the results of these investigations.

Pay: $80,000.00 per year
