Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience conducting investigations (i.e. equal opportunity, human resources, labor relations, mediation and/or alternative dispute resolution). Student experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a higher education, public sector or unionized setting. Experience conducting investigations under the Civil Rights model of investigation. Experience interpreting federal and state equal opportunity laws and regulations.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Junior EEO Investigator, under general guidance of the Director of Investigations and Senior Director, will receive and investigate complaints of protected class discrimination and harassment, and related retaliation which includes identifying and interviewing complaint(s), respondent(s), and witnesses; gathering and assessing information relevant to the investigation, and appropriately applying relevant University, Medical Center, and Long Island State Veterans Home (LISVH) policies to determine findings of fact in individual cases. When appropriate, the position will collaborate with other campus resources including Campus Police, Hospital Security Services, Employee and Labor Relations, Research Foundation and Office of Community Standards. Ability to maintain confidential information, manage multiple priorities, a robust caseload and projects simultaneously. Under the direction of the Director of Investigations, the incumbent will serve as a Junior EEO Investigator in the field of Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity and Diversity. This includes the review, investigation and resolution of discrimination complaints brought by campus constituents (faculty, staff, and students). The incumbent may also perform special duties and projects within the Office of Equity and Access by either the Director of Investigations or Senior Director. The Junior EEO Investigator is responsible for investigating protected class reports and complaints. The Junior EEO Investigator duties include:
- Investigations
- Investigative duties will include, but are not limited to: develop an investigative plan, analyze complaint to identify allegations, interviewing complainants(s), and respondent(s), identify and interview witnesses, identify and collect relevant documentation, appropriately document interviews and other investigatory findings according to the OEA investigative process and analyze information gathered from the investigative process to determine findings. Report detailed written analysis and findings from the complaint investigation to the Director Intake complaints and assess appropriate resolution process and procedural protocol to be followed. Intake and investigate complaints of discrimination and harassment filed by students, staff, faculty, or visitors in compliance with federal and state laws, executive orders and University policies and procedures. Ensure effective, efficient, thorough and impartial investigations while ensuring attention to detail and accuracy regarding facts, relevance, and investigation documentation.
- Assist in the preparation of various OEA reports. Collaborate with other offices (i.e. Labor Relations, Human Resource Services, General Counsel, and University Community Standards) regarding investigations when appropriate.
- Regularly attend meetings, training or other similar engagements, on-site and off-site.
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes:
This is a Management Confidential position. This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
