Job Title: Overnight Kennel Assistant

Reports to: Lead Kennel

Summary

The overnight kennel assistant provides routine care of boarding and hospitalized animals. The overnight kennel assistant also pays close attention to animal’s health notifying technicians and veterinarians when a pet needs medical attention. Proper record documentation and accurate completion of boarding/hospitalized forms and cage cards is critical. The overnight kennel assistant must pay close attention to details, understand, and follow proper sanitation procedures.

Responsibilities

• Clean and disinfect cages, runs and yard as needed
• Maintain facilities including washing dishes, laundry, sweeping, mopping, restocking and organizing supplies and storage areas.
• Daily interaction with cats and dogs of varying size and temperament, handling each animal in a safe, caring and respectful manner
• Mark records correctly for eating, drinking and elimination habits; feed and water animals according to schedules
• Assist overnight technicians and veterinarian with animal care when needed
• Collaborate and take instruction from staff. Maintain a professional and respectful manner when working and communicating with staff.

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift up to 50lbs
• Frequent, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting
• Walking/standing for up to 10 hours

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• 1-3 years related animal care
• Able to remain calm and think clearly in emergency situations
• Experience working with animals, strong preference for veterinary experience
• Reliability and timeliness
• Able to work cooperatively in a team environment; while also able to work independently
• Must be 18 years or older
