DESCRIPTION
Assist in maintaining mouse colony by selecting breeding pairs, weaning and sacrificing older animals. Extract DNA from mouse tails. Assist and acquire performing polymerase chain reaction (PCR) experiments to genotype different mouse lines. Assist in preparation of primary hippocampal neurons. Perform fluorescence lifetime imaging experiments using primary neuronal cultures. Assist with image and data analysis. Incumbent will collect and maintain data, write reports, prepare slides for presentations, create and maintain various records, logs, and maintain a clean and safe lab environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two (2) years of college level coursework in molecular biology or related science and/or one (1) basic laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with genotyping PCR.
Knowledge of basic lab operations, procedures, and proper use and maintenance of lab equipment.
Experience in preparation of chemical solutions.
Strong computer skills including demonstrated experience with word-processing, and image-processing programs.
Ability to organize, analyze, calculate, and maintain data.
Excellent record keeping and data management skills.
Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize assignments, maintain workflow, and work productively in meeting critical deadlines and milestones.
Effective interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy and flexibility. Ability to work in a team framework in conjunction with principles of community with staff, professionals, the public, and others.
Knowledge of basic lab safety requirements and procedures.
Knowledge of EH&S regulations and methods for handling, clean-up, and waste disposal for biohazardous materials.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Available and willing to work evenings and weekends to accommodate experiments as necessary.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $38,983 - $45,184 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $18.67 - $21.64
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
Job offer is contingent on successful engagement in the UC COVID-19 Vaccination program (fully vaccinated with documented proof or approved exception/deferral).
