Required Qualifications: This position requires a bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related field and over one (1) year of experience and a working knowledge of computers and software packages.
Desired Qualifications: A master’s degree is preferred. Experience in a chemistry and/or microbiology laboratory along with teaching and managerial experience is preferred.
Working Hours: This position is a 5-day, 40-hour workweek and may require teaching in addition to evening and weekend hours as needed to make sure all labs are properly set up and taken down. Work schedule may vary from semester to semester.
Please note: This position will be based at the DeLand Campus. However, responsibilities of this position may require travel for temporary assignment or permanent relocation to any of Daytona State College campuses.
The starting salary is $39,000.

Key Responsibilities:
- Works with faculty and work study students to set up and take down laboratory experiments, laboratory and/or classroom demonstrations, including communicating with faculty regarding the updating of preparation sheets for laboratory experiments and demonstrations.
- Interviews, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates work-study students.
- Prepares and/or standardizes samples, media, bacteria, and solutions for laboratory experiments and projects in the biology, microbiology, chemistry, and anatomy and physiology labs.
- Is responsible to enforce safety in the laboratory as the primary point of contact for the office of safety in the matters of hazardous waste storage and disposal, maintaining current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemicals on-site, and instructing all laboratory personnel in proper safety procedures.
- Coordinates inventory and stocking of the science preparation area; maintains laboratories and preparation areas in a safe, clean, and orderly manner, and properly maintains and coordinates service and repairs of instruments and equipment.
- Assists in the ongoing process of revising laboratory experiments that are written and published by the college.
- May teach up to nine (9) contact hours per week.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The successful candidate must have knowledge of proper laboratory procedures and practices especially in Microbiology; good working knowledge of computers and software, specially spreadsheets; ability to exercise good judgment and communicate effectively both orally and written; strong organizational skills and ability to work in a multiple task environment; ability to supervise work –study students and maintain positive interpersonal relations with faculty, staff and students.
