Description

The Office of the Defender General is seeking a self-motivated and dependable candidate for a Legal Assistant II position. Based in our Central office in Montpelier, this position will provide support for three attorneys and a case manager in the Office of the Juvenile Defender, in addition to providing support to the ODG’s Administration. Responsibilities will include assisting with attorney scheduling, maintaining calendars, managing the intake and documentation of expert requests, travel requests, and criminal records requests, entering caseload data into case management system, and drafting legal documents and correspondence, among other tasks. This position offers the opportunity for client interaction, as well as the opportunity to participate in case reviews and meetings with the Department for Children and Families. This Legal Assistant II position is an integral part of the office, and the position requires patience and the ability to work with a wide variety of people. Prior administrative/secretarial experience preferred.

Compensation

This is a pay grade 19 position will State benefits. Starting salary range is $20.00 - $21.69/hour based on qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements

Associate’s degree or two years of full-time college coursework (or the equivalent) AND three (3) years or more of experience performing legal administrative duties. OR bachelor’s degree AND two (2) years or more of experience performing legal administrative duties. OR paralegal certification AND three (3) years or more of experience performing legal administrative duties. OR high school diploma or equivalent AND five (4) years or more of experience performing legal administrative duties.
