Role Summary

The Controls Technician will work in conjunction with the maintenance team by providing day-to-day troubleshooting, programming and technical support within the processing departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct manufacturing line support.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process problems as required.
  • Service, maintain, repair, install and test equipment in accordance with current machine specifications.
  • PLC/HMI troubleshooting and maintenance to support production
  • Reteach and troubleshoot robotic material handlers and weld cells.
  • Create and modify electrical drawings, process & instrumentation diagrams and schematics as required.
  • Procurement and ordering of spare components, provide justification for orders.
  • Troubleshoot networks for communication issues.
  • Utilize software to make basic changes to logic.
  • Assist with mechanical repairs as needed.
  • Perform PM inspections as required.
  • Follow Maintenance Manager and Team Leaders direction and task prioritization.
  • C.I. to assembly equipment as directed
  • Improve PMS when diagnosed through breakdowns or Continuous Improvement.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronic Technician or similar Engineering degree/diploma/certificate or Trades Qualification and significant equivalent work experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge in the following software packages: Allen Bradley RSlogix 500, 5000, Factory Talk View Studio, Allen Bradley Panel Builder32, Omron CX-Programmer, Omron NT-series Support Tool is an asset.
  • Knowledge of PLC/HMI programming and troubleshooting along with Robot programming and troubleshooting is an asset.
  • Knowledge of and ability to troubleshoot industrial networks (DeviceNet, EthernetIP) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of and ability to troubleshoot machine safety circuits and applications (ABB, Kuka, Yaskawa) is an asset.
  • Understanding of VFD, DC and Servo Drive systems is an asset.
  • Familiar with Vision Systems (Keyence, Cognex, Omron) is an asset.
  • Previous experience and exposure to robotics (ABB, Kuka, Yaskawa) an asset.
  • Understanding of Data Tracking and the use of Barcode Scanners or RFID is an asset.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents, schematic design specification, update drawings as required, is an asset.
  • Understanding of welding and welding processes is an asset.
  • Knowledge of and experience with panel building is an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
