Summary of Duties:
The Maintenance Custodian position performs custodial duties and, under general supervision, a variety of routine maintenance work in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, grounds or related work at Washington State University's Puyallup Research and Extension Center.
Du ties:
General Facilities Custodial and Maintenance (75%)
- Maintains facilities to WSU facilities operation standards.
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, showers, and toilet facilities in multiple buildings; keeps them properly supplied with toilet paper, paper towels, soap, etc.
- Vacuums carpets, cleans carpets using carpet extractors.
- Dust mops, wet mops, strips, waxes and buffs hard surface floors.
- Empties trash cans, recycle bins and compost containers.
- Wipes down tables, walls, woodwork, window sills, blinds, and cleans windows in common areas, and other areas as directed.
- Cleans and maintains building entrances.
- Changes out door mats, rags, and mop heads for laundry service; monitors supply inventory.
- Performs minor maintenance and repair work such as painting; replace faucet batteries and washers, toilet tank floats, furnace filters, light bulbs, light switches, thermostats; repairs water leaks, unclogs drains, etc.
- Repairs and performs preventive maintenance on custodial and other power equipment such as vacuums, buffers, autoscrubbers, carpet cleaning machines, hand mowers, riding lawn mowers, and edging tools.
- Makes routine repairs to office furniture, door locks, ceramic and vinyl tile, carpet installation, ceiling grid, and drywall.
- Provides snow and ice removal at building entrances, pressure washes sidewalks, benches and railings. Occasionally completes yard and garden work such as mowing, weeding, or raking leaves and debris.
- Assists with office/room moves and restorations.
- Tests and repairs backflow devices.
- Monitors and performs building pest control.
- Assists with monitoring/adjusting building HVAC controls and boiler operations.
- Addresses security issues after normal business hours, secures gates and buildings.
- Assists with maintaining campus security systems, building door locks, key control, and access control badges.
- Washes and details motor pool vehicles.
Event and Classroom Space Custodial (15%)
- Provides clean up to event center after events and conferences including floors, tables, kitchen, garbage and recycling, etc.
- Wipes down all conference and classroom tables.
- Vacuums, sweeps, and dusts all conference rooms and classrooms.
- Sets up and takes down equipment and furnishings.
Guest House Custodial and Housekeeping (5%)
- Cleans guest house common areas, kitchen and restrooms.
- Provides move out room cleaning and bedding laundry and change out.
Other (5%)
- Other duties as assigned including assisting FMO team in area needed.
Required Qualifications:
The ability to do required work and the ability to read and write AND six months experience in custodial, general or building maintenance, grounds keeping, or semi-skilled carpentry, electrical and/or plumbing repair work; OR equivalent education/experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of experience as a Maintenance Custodian, or equivalent.

Monthly Salary:
Range 34, $2,827.00 - $3,734.00 (Steps A - M) | Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28 OR applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
