A Managing Editor with deep knowledge of the K-12 English Language & Literacy market, an entrepreneurial spirit, and passion for developing digital and print language learning programs to impact student learning outcomes. WHAT IS THE ROLE ABOUT? This is a unique opportunity where you will play a critical role in managing/ executing editorial projects of varying size and complexity, conceptualizing new programs, and provide guidance on quality standards, pedagogy, and best practices for creating and editing content for K-12 learner’s education market. In this capacity, you will use your expert knowledge of US K-12 curriculum standards and editorial best practices, to work with a team of in-house and freelance editors to execute editorial projects, and create and edit content for the K-12 English language learning and literacy market.

WHY IS THIS EXCITING? You have the opportunity to hit the ground running with current projects, significantly influence the content and direction of new programs, and manage a team of development editors, both in-house and freelance.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

  • Conceptualize and plan for all aspects of mid to large-scale English language learning and language arts products (print and digital), such as professional experience, research, competition, standards, technology, etc.
  • Write activities and articles; copyedit materials for publication in accordance with corporate guidelines
  • Identify, manage, and guide writers, editors, and consultants, freelance and in-house, as well as provide training, direction, and mentoring on applying editorial quality guidelines
  • Create and manage budgets and forecasts for external costs
  • Create and manage manuscript schedules with strict attention to detail
  • Track multiple ongoing, high-priority projects simultaneously

YOU MUST HAVE (MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE)

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 7+ years of experience in an editorial role within education publishing required
  • Strong knowledge of US K-12 ELD/ ELL and/or ELA market in order to conceptualize editorial content and projects required
  • Advanced level editorial knowledge (including English language grammar, pedagogy, and manuscripting)
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Acrobat required
  • Experience developing digital product work from an editorial standpoint required
  • Expert knowledge of US K-12 curriculum standards
  • Experience managing multi-component educational programs

IDEAL IF YOU HAVE or ARE (PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE)

  • Knowledge of and proficiency with Spanish strongly preferred
  • Previous experience teaching in K-12
  • People management experience
  • Good project/ resource budgeting experience
  • A strong strategic thinker and are able to effectively pivot between initiatives and related challenges
  • Proven experience developing and carrying out complex and effective projects and plans
  • Results oriented and able to balance 'big picture' thinking with detailed and highly organized execution

LOCATION

Remote: This role requires residence within the United States. Candidates must meet this requirement in order to be considered. Up to 10% travel required.
