Shift: Full time, Days and Evenings, Every other weekend, 36 Hrs/week



Reporting to the Director or other designated manager, serves as primary assistant to the medical provider by performing routine clinical tasks under Physician(MD), Advanced Practice Provider (APP), and/or Clinical Coordinator, Registered Nurse (RN) supervision; provides direct patient care completing multiple clinical tasks that are not governed by licensure. Performs Point of Care testing, Occupational Health Services (OHS) testing, supports lab site patient services, and phlebotomy. Performs routine clerical duties, stocking, and cleaning functions as required. Provides a safe and therapeutic patient environment that maintains patient’s respect, dignity and confidentiality of health information. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to complete routine clinical tasks involving all age groups of patients under the supervision of a licensed MD/APP/RN.


1. Performs routine tasks to assist the care provider in patient care activities. Escorts patients to patient care rooms and performs and documents initial data collection, explanation of treatment procedures, and patient history interviews. Practices good customer relations maintaining an awareness of, and sensitivity to, patients/families concerns. Collects data regarding patient nutrition, activity, mental state, temperature, pulse, blood pressure, height and weight. Observes and responds to the general needs of patients. Anticipates Patient needs by preparing patient and assists the physician/APP during the examination. Reports the general physical and mental condition of the patient to the physician.

2. Performs various clinical tasks under the direction of the MD/APP/RN. Performs venipunctures and finger sticks; identifies correct patient before collecting specimen and labels specimens before leaving the patient. Performs Point of Care testing and supports lab draw site services according to all College of American Pathology (CAP) or other laboratory accrediting agency, Joint Commission of Accreditation for Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), and hospital policies. Logs and documents procedures performed according to hospital requirements. Completes EKG’s, suture removal, and dressing changes.

3. Performs various OHS tests according to client specifications. Reviews OHS client database to ensure that the client company receives accurate service components for its employees. Performs substance abuse specimen collection, i.e., Breathalyzer testing (EBT), and Urine Drug Screens. Assists with other ancillary testing or mandated exams according to identified services and related guidelines. Processes Chain of Custody urine drug screen specimens for shipment to certified labs for testing, according to the client company’s instruction.

4. Performs various clerical functions; answers telephones, relays messages and greets patients in a professional manner. Updates, processes and files patient medical records. Schedules appointments and documents patient referrals. Enters supply orders and charges. Prepares patient records for the Health Information Management Department ensuring that all required documents are included according to established procedures.

5. Attends mandatory educational programs to maintain competence in areas practice.

6. Is alert to potential Quality Assurance problems and actively participates in process improvement opportunities.

7. Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
1. Minimum high school diploma required.

2. Requires a certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assistant Program or EMT certification.

3. Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred.

4. Working knowledge of and experience with the use of medical equipment and materials.

5. Current CPR certification from American Heart Association.

6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate test results and document legibly.

7. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, team members, and physicians and to maintain team-oriented relationships with senior management, managers and staff.

8. Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision while exercising attention to details and independent judgment within stated guidelines.

9. Ability to maintain high customer service standards.

10. Proficient computer skills and the ability to learn and effectively utilize department specific software systems.

11. Ability to effectively perform or learn technical skills to perform essential functions within allocated time frame.

12. Ability to work a flexible schedule as part of a team.

13. Ability and willingness to float between multiple locations when needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Requires continuous standing and walking for most of shift. Requires frequent (3-6 times per hour) bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and overhead reaching and frequent lifting and carrying of 15lbs. To 30lbs. Requires occasional (10-15 times per day) lifting and carrying 30lbs. to 70lbs. and occasional pushing/pulling of up to 300lbs. In wheeled equipment.

2. Flow of work requires concentrated mental, visual, and auditory attention most of the time. Concentrated mental, visual, and auditory attention combined with manual dexterity is required for sustained periods of time.

3. Required visual acuity adequate to assess patients and read/record patient charts.

4. Requires auditory acuity adequate to converse with patients, take phone orders, and receive directions from physicians and coworkers who are wearing masks.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Conditions are acceptable. At least one disagreeable element or hazard is frequently present in the environment, i.e. infectious disease, while several disagreeable elements of hazards are occasionally present.

2. The flow of work and character of duties involves normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time.
