Job Summary
The Medical Technologist shall have a thorough knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Science and the knowledge and skills to perform tests of high complexity, working with established procedures in multiple departments of the Laboratory. The employee shall actively support the policies and goals of the Clinical Laboratory, University Hospital, and JG Brown Cancer Center.
Responsibilities
- Analyzes patient samples according to approved standards of testing
- Performs and records quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of test results
- Maintains equipment to ensure accurate, consistent results in the performance of tests
- Processes laboratory specimens as needed
- Properly prepares and identifies samples for laboratory testing
- Monitors the recording and reporting of test results including reporting critical results
- Accurately reports patient results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
- Performs clerical duties needed for the department (includes accessing information in the EHR, filing reports/slides/specimens, answering phones, tracking specimens)
- Identifies and performs complex antibody workups
- Prepares blood components for transfusion
Required Qualifications
- MT (ASCP) (AMT) (HEW)
- MD/DO, PhD, MS, BS or BA in Chemistry or Biological Science or Medical Technology; qualified as technologist/technician under CLIA rules
