Mental Health Technician Job Description

The Mental Health Technician will ensure a sound therapeutic environment within the standards set by the programs mission and funding sources.

Mental Health Technician Responsibilities (This list not inclusive of all duties assigned)

The right candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:

• Responsible for adherence to and enforcing the daily client schedule and program rules.
• Ensure thorough searches are done as per search checklist on all clients upon entry or reentry to the residential program.
• Assists clients with their needs in conjunction with the Treatment Team and contributes to Treatment Team interventions.
• Maintains all documentation pertaining to Mental Health Tech duties while on shift.
• Responsible for writing all incidents in the House Log (maintains all SOD logs accurate).
• Document Incident Reports for all incidents (fights, medical emergencies, etc.) and give to Residential Supervisor within 24 hours of incidents.
• Maintains census to ensure accurate location of each individual client.
• Administers medication to clients as per MARS; update and document inventory and notation on clients as applicable.
• Maintains structured, non-disruptive environment in the House, as well as on outings.
• Performs hourly inspections of the facility for security and cleanliness purposes.
• Contributes to the educational and vocational services provided to clients.
• Night monitoring as specified by standard operating procedures (SOP) and observe clients for contraband usage.
• Transport clients to CHI and other places as needed and approved by Residential Services Coordinator.

Mental Health Technician Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with some college, certificate: CNA, etc
• Mental Health Technician (MHT) certification must be acquired or obtained within a year of employment date.
• Minimum one year of experience in mental health field.
• Bilingual Preferred
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and switch tasks quickly.
• Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written.
• Ability to use good judgment in sensitive situations and maintain confidentiality.
