Job Summary:
The Archivist will perform duties associated with digitizing original archival audio recordings, ingesting new audio and video recordings, troubleshooting hardware and software on backstage recording workstations and SAN.
Job Responsibilities Include:
Daily ingest of new event recordings.
  • Copy files from record media to archive & backup.
  • Edit, mix, master, record in Pro Tools, or Logic as needed.
  • Perform basic video post-production work with Adobe Premiere as needed.
  • Convert files with Adobe Media Encoder as needed.
  • Enter all technical metadata to the Y’s events database.
  • Manage and maintain archived recordings and storage volumes.
  • Upload files to link-share services.
  • Fulfill media requests as needed.
Maintain archive workstations.
  • Maintain tape machines, outboard gear, computer hardware, storage devices, LAN, SAN, NAS, etc.
  • Perform upgrades and updates on Mac OS and work-related software.
  • Streamline and enhance archival operations as new technology emerges.
  • Recommend equipment and software upgrades as needed.
Maintain SAN (primary Audio Archive storage system).
  • Regularly check SAN status for drive failures and corrupt files.
  • Update SAN connection software, evaluate upgrades and deploy to backstage workstation.
Produce repurposed audio in a variety of end formats (CD-r, MP3, 24-bit WAV files) as needed for various 92NY departments and media partners (e.g. podcasts, audible.com, itunesU, etc.).

Transfer/digitize past event recordings from reel, cassette, PCM/DBX, DAT, and DVD-Ram.
  • Maintain legacy playback equipment as needed.
  • Ingest past event recordings to 92NY audio archive.
  • Prioritize legacy recordings based on format stability and importance of content.
  • Ingest and catalogue event footage from online events into the 92NY event archive.
Prepare annual budget for 92NY audio archive
  • Work with supervisors and other department heads to plan equipment and software upgrades, expendable supply needs, maintenance, and tech support contracts.
  • Anticipate and recommend long-term equipment and software needs.
Experience, Education, & Skills Desired:

  • Degree in Audio/Video Engineering, Multimedia Production, related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of audio/video archive experience, showing a progression of technical and project management skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite (Microsoft Access a plus).
  • Familiarity with enterprise-class data storage, cloud storage and RAID protection. (Must have or be willing to acquire administrator level knowledge of the SNS SAN storage system).
  • Mac OS administration.

    • Setup and maintenance of legacy audio playback equipment
  • Basic video production experience a must (Adobe Creative Cloud).
Work Environment & Requirements:
40 hours per week.
