Pay Rate: $22 per hour


Primary Responsibilities

SAFETY - #1 Priority at ALL Times

  • Traffic Control of all vehicles/equipment through the facility.
    • Safety is our number one priority here at Sims… As an inspector you are to play a very active roll controlling the traffic flow throughout the yard.
      • Staging traffic in the yard for both loading/unloading,
      • Assistance in backing vehicles/trucks to guide them safely to their designated positions.
      • Act as the primary source of communication between the Scale, the operators, and our customers.
      • Assistance with regulating traffic flow both into and out of yard at all times. Communication with the Supervisor on duty, the scale, and the crew on duty is essential.
      • Assistance with Stopping and communicating any un-safe acts that occur at all times whether these acts are being committed by our own employees or our customers.
  • Inbound/Outbound Material Inspection
    • Enforcing our Scrap Metal Acceptance Policy on the ground.
      • Ensuring that all material entering/exiting the yard is acceptable deemed by our Scrap Acceptance Policy.
      • Ensuring that no hazardous waste or materials enters the yard.
      • Communicating to the Scale and Supervisor on duty if any hazardous waste/materials are found and rejecting these types of materials if they are trying to be dropped off by our customers.
      • Acting as a main line of defense against any non-conforming scrap. Communication of non-conforming scrap is an essential part of the job function.
  • Grading and Determination of Deductions
    • Determining the Grade of all scrap Metal and assigning a determined weight to all non value garbage in all loads at point of offload into the yard.
      • Ensuring the positioning of all loads in the yard by material grade is critical
      • Assessing the material once dumped to reinforce suspected grade determined by scale.
      • Inspecting each load for any deductions of zero value added garbage (Ex. Wood, garbage, debris ect.) Communication of these values to the Supervisor and the Scale house is an essential part of the job function.
      • Communication to Operators and Supervisor if any material is suspected to be unloaded in the incorrect area.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to the environment; risk of electrical shock; explosives; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
