Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Nurse Extern, you assist in the provision of individualized nursing care under the direction of a registered nurse. The Nurse Extern utilizes a patient/family centered approach in delivering care to assigned patients and works to continually improve services and processes.

What you should expect to do in this role:

• Your role will facilitate and assist the registered nurse (RN) in the delivery of patient care reporting any changes in the patient ’s condition to the RN
• You will observe, monitor, document, and report changes in patient vital signs
• You will be responsible for setting up patient room/bedside for admission
• Your role will attach the patient to appropriate monitoring devices – Pulse Oximetry, cardiac monitor
• You will answer phones, input orders, and perform clerical functions, as needed
• You will assist and perform patient’s daily care such as bathing, oral care, ambulation, bed making, nutritional needs, etc.
• Your role will communicate in a therapeutically and developmentally appropriate manner with patients and families
• You will restock unit supplies to maintain efficiency in the delivery of care

What qualification you will need for this role:

• Currently enrolled in an approved school of nursing or completed approved school of nursing (pending hire as RN)
• Successful completion of at least one full semester of clinical nursing that includes nursing fundamentals
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) verification course through American Heart Assoc. and American Red Cross - Healthcare Provider CPR

This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and /or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
