Nursery Plant Purchaser

T&L Nursery, Inc. is located 30 miles east of Seattle, in the Sammamish Valley, between Redmond and Woodinville. For over 30 years we have taken pride in producing the highest quality plant material for Garden Centers and landscapers in the Pacific Northwest. T&L grows approximately 4 million plants of over 2500 varieties per year making us one of the largest and most diverse growers in the region. Despite these successes, we are still a small, privately-owned business with a focus on culture.

At T&L, our Production Department is the center of planning and fulfilling the needs of the nursery. This is where we purchase materials, plan for space and locations, review propagation and transplanting schedules, and assess the beginning stages of plant quality. In addition, our Production Department is responsible for adjusting accordingly to the ebbs and flows of our business, and ensuring the process is consistent. The Production Team is the starting point of all plant material at T&L, and we take great pride in our role here.

The Plant Purchaser is the main focal point for sourcing, tracking, and purchasing all plant materials associated with future crop forecasts for the nursery. This role is instrumental in ensuring that the nursery can grow the highest quality crops in time for peak seasonality. This role requires a strong grasp of data entry and analysis, critical thinking, and relationship management. Come make a difference with us today!

Key Responsibilities:

Work with the production team to accomplish the following:

· Work with the Production and Sales department to reach forecasting goals

· Establish relationships and communicate regularly with vendors.

· Update and maintain records in the systems database.

· Purchase all varieties of plant materials for future crops including seeds, urcs, tc, liners, and finished plant products

· Coordinate all aspects of plant material deliveries

· Track, compare and support vendor offerings to ensure T&L’s is achieving the highest quality plant material at the lowest cost, while also maintaining back up suppliers for as many of our crop varieties as possible.

· Monitor shipments to ensure products come in on time and resolve problems related to incorrect or undelivered products.

· Monitor and track costs of product, minimum orders quantities, lead times and other variables related to sourcing.

· Troubleshoot substitutions and forecast changes

· Support the ongoing needs of the Production Team and T&L Nursery as otherwise may be required.

· Act as a secondary support to other members of the Production Team.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· 5 years of Buyer experience

· Horticulture experience preferred

· Excellent communication

· Strong attention to detail

· Organized, with ability to prioritize and track multiple projects

· Strong data analysis and critical thinking skills

· Computer skills necessary in MS Office

· Proficient mathematical skills

· Works well both independently and as a part of a team

· Self-motivated

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $32.00 per hour
