Job Description
Purpose of the Nursing Supervisor is to supervise staff, oversee and manage psychiatric nursing care for the area of responsibility. To serve as a liaison and advocate for individuals served by Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Healthcare (CIBH) and to ensure that each person has access to medication assessment, medication and psychiatric care, and client education and support. To work within broad policy and organizational guidelines. To independently plan and implement program projects. To report progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings. To provide clinical case coordination, education, and assessment to individuals and to expedite clinical solutions, especially in the area of medication usage and efficacy. To manage program budget and staffing resources for optimal program benefit.
Typical tasks include:
Plans, coordinates, directs and supervises professional services for nurses in compliance with local, state and federal guidelines, regulations and laws. Manages the day to day program operations including coordinating clinic schedule according to staff allotment and advocating for changes in clinic needs.
Supervise and manage staff, city employees as well as contracted, including selecting or recommending selection of new staff, training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling, disciplining and terminating or recommending termination.
Plans, manages, and prioritizes the program budget to meet clinic needs including staffing, supplies, medications, etc. Reviews budget for appropriate allotment of staffing and acceptable clinic ratios between provider, nursing staff and individuals served by the unit.
Participates in at least monthly supervision meetings with assigned staff to review job performance, provide feedback and review caseload documentation for adherence to corporate compliance and HIPAA expectations and conducts staff meetings as needed related to performance improvement.
Gathers and maintains information for record keeping in area of responsibility. Reviews and completes required and assigned daily, monthly, quarterly and annual reports; assists in the completion of all required local, state and federal reporting requirements (e.g. State Licensure, etc.) Reviews and processes requisitions, personnel information for periodic and special reporting .
Develops, implements and enforces policies and procedures for area of responsibility in order to provide effective programming and services for behavioral health and substance use that comply with federal, state, and local guidelines, regulations and laws; ensures compliance with same, by staff. Assists in the maintenance and updating of all policies and procedures, training materials and other required written materials.
Attend and conduct staff, committee and other professional meetings to exchange information. Attend professional seminars/conferences to improve professional skills. Stay abreast of changes in treatment and medication for area of responsibility .
Manages contracts, certifications, and licenses for maintenance of program to include medication room, biohazard waste management, temporary staff, onsite vendors .
Provide direct clinical care as ordered by the physician to all individuals served by the unit, including assessments, vital signs, client and family education, ordering and delivering medications, covering nurses or physician clinics, assisting clients with requests, needs and concerns. Completion of documentation of paperwork related to clinical care provided including Release of Information, Consents for treatment, and Nursing Assessments.

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in nursing.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
