The Floyd County Medical Center Occupational Therapy Department is growing and we looking to add another Occupational Therapist to our team! Join a progressive Therapy Department that has great rapport with physicians, nursing staff, and other disciplines.

Position Overview: The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides occupational therapy evaluations, modalities, and treatments as prescribed by a licensed physician in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease, or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. The OT carries out these responsibilities in accordance with established Medical Center and departmental policies while maintaining the highest degree of quality patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Is responsible and accountable for the care of Occupational Therapy patients, including those being treated by a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), and occupational therapy students.
  • Acquires pertinent information and develops and implements comprehensive treatment program using varied techniques and treatment activities; reviews and modifies treatment in response to changing patient needs; identifies equipment and discharge needs.
  • Is aware of patient injury/diagnosis and takes all necessary precautions for observing indications and contradictions.
  • Provides treatment to diverse diagnostic populations and completes supporting documentation according to Medical Center policy and Occupational Therapy Practice Act.
  • Observes treatment affect, accomplishment of short- and long-term goals, and recommends changes to physician, if needed.
  • Communicates and collaborates with support personnel regarding treatment orders.
  • When necessary, instructs caregiver/family members in home exercise programs as related to the patient’s functional and self-care status and discusses necessary equipment for the home situation.
  • Complies with department, Medical Center, and all regulatory agencies guidelines with respect to ethics, legal issues and supervisory relationships. Demonstrates professional accountability per American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Occupational Therapy.
  • Completes timely and accurate documentation of patient treatment in the patient medical record as indicated. Ensures patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis.
  • Protects patient confidentiality in regard to medical, emotional, and social status.
  • Communicates effectively with the Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) in regard to the patient’s status, problem areas, progress, etc.
  • Perceives the existence of problems implements safe, effective, and timely solutions.
  • Demonstrates appropriate safety measures when implementing treatment programs.
  • Provides input/suggestions for the physical functioning of the department in the areas of equipment management, space utilization, storage, etc.
  • Assists in inventory and ordering of supplies and equipment.
  • Assists in maintenance of safe, clean work environment.
  • Assists in preparation/maintenance of daily treatment schedule.
  • Develops home programs and instructs patients in the program.
  • Performs discharge planning (prescriptions, equipment requests, and referrals).
  • Reports on patient’s status at patient Care Conference.
  • Assists with the general operation of the Occupational Therapy Department.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education and/or Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s, Masters, or Doctorate Degree from an AOTA accredited program.
  • Experience in all aspects of occupational therapy preferred, experience in a hospital setting is a plus.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Ability to work outside of regularly scheduled hours if needed.

Licensure/Certification Required:

Current certification as an Occupational Therapist in the state of Iowa.

Organizational Relationships:

Reports to: Occupational Therapy Director

Employees supervised: None (Will give day-to-day direction and guidance to COTA’s and occupational therapy students)
