Veteran Engineering and Technology, LLC (VET) requires a System Administrator for the Office of Inspector General at the Department of Commerce.

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) takes very seriously the responsibility to serve and protect the American public’s interests and investments in the Department of Commerce. The OIG organizational vision is to create a high quality work environment that promotes excellence and confidence in the programs and operations of the Department of Commerce. Operating under the authority of the Inspector General Act of 1978, as amended, the Office primarily fulfills its responsibilities by conducting audits, investigations, and an array of inspections, systems evaluations and other reviews.

The current OIG staff consists of approximately 250 Federal and contractor personnel at Headquarters (Washington, DC), Denver, Atlanta, Seattle, Silver Spring, and Alexandria. There are approximately 125 servers, and approximately 275 laptop/desktop/workstation computers across the OIG sites.

The following tasks are anticipated:

To accommodate the OIG mission and business needs and to comply with various Federal policies and mandates, the items in the below list are subject to updates, virtualization, consolidation and in some cases migration to shared services, cloud services, or consolidated data center(s). The incumbent will provide resources to support the following requirements:

· Conduct functional and connectivity testing to ensure continuing operability.

· Manage accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment.

· Provide ongoing optimization and problem-solving support.

· Install, update, and troubleshoot systems/servers.

· Check system hardware availability, functionality, integrity, and efficiency.

· Implement and enforce local network usage policies and procedures.

· Manage system/server resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.

· Oversee installation, implementation, configuration, and support of system components.

· Troubleshoot hardware/software interface and interoperability problems.

· Build Windows Server 2016 or greater servers, both physical and virtual (Microsoft Hyper-V), applying OIG’s derivation of the STIG baseline for Windows.

· Configure an active firewall on all servers that allows the minimum open ports to reduce the attack surface.

· Ensure all needed clients are included and working on all servers, including but not limited to Nessus, LCE, Anti-Virus, BigFix, EMET, Backup Exec, and more as needed.

· Ensure all newly built servers are free of vulnerabilities prior to bringing said servers into production.

· Installs new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves software related problems; Performs system backups and recovery; Maintains data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a project leader or manager. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. May lead or direct others.

There are approximately 125 servers, and approximately 275 laptop/desktop/workstation computers across the OIG sites. The overall objective is to assist OIG’s Office of Chief Information Officer (OCIO) leadership in maintaining and updating information technology capabilities, security and services. Performance objectives which must be met:

PRS#1

· Maintain current system accreditation documentation, system level drawings, and configuration documents.

· Install, test, maintain and upgrade operating system software.

· Assist in resolving outstanding POAM issues.

· Determine best approach to support applications on hardware.

· Review usage logs and correct availability issues.

· Assist with the SharePoint servers/resources area.

· Build and Deploy Servers

PRS#3

· Support Investigation and complaint case management system

· Support Audit Management System

· Maintain and improve utilization of virtual machines and virtual hosts

· Maintain and Upgrade Microsoft Exchange

· Maintain and Upgrade ManageEngine Service Desk System

· Maintain Network Device List

· Apply Security Baselines

· Provide Tier III troubleshooting support for tickets elevated by the Help Desk Contractor

· Maintain working backups of IT business data.

Minimum Qualifications

· BA/BS in an associated discipline (or equivalent)

· Strong verbal, written and communication skills

· Ability to gather customer feedback on documentation to improve usability.

· Excellent attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects in a fast-paced, changing environment.

· Ability to adapt rapidly to a changing industry and be able to adjust responsibilities, time, and objectives accordingly.

· Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills so they can communicate with others about the work they are performing.
