The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time Airport Operations Agent with the Sugar Land Regional Airport.

Summary of Duties

The ideal candidate must be able to provide assistance in the coordination of aeronautical activities and operations at the Sugar Land Regional Airport. Perform a variety of work as it relates to operations, administration, maintenance, emergency response, construction projects, and customer service. Employees in this class are responsible for conducting on-going inspections of airport areas to ensure proper adherence to airport rules, regulations, and safety procedures. This position shall report to the Airport Operations Supervisor. The job will require working nights, weekends, holidays, or other hours as required by the Director or Operations Supervisor.

As an Airport Operations Agent, you will:
  • Inspect airport operation/movement areas including airport runway and taxiway system, airport lighting and airport navigational aids (NAVAIDs). Shall be responsible to ensure that all pavement areas, lighting systems and equipment are working and in compliance with FAA regulations. Must also maintain all required inspections and reports.
  • Responsible for enforcing the policies and procedures in the Airport’s Emergency Response Plan, Hurricane Plan, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SW3P), Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan (SPCC), Pavement Management Plan (PMP), and any other plan assigned by Airport Management.
  • Respond to airport emergencies and assist in emergency operations as needed. Will notify the proper authority of emergency situations and will respond as the authority or situation requires. Shall assist in the airport’s investigation of any aircraft accidents, incidents or incursions with other Operations personnel.
  • Must be able to perform required work and seek out opportunities to finish tasks or projects.
  • Assist in public relations by telephone, e-mail, tenant meetings or in person by assisting customers, visitors and tour groups; disseminating information to the public including rules and regulations, ordinances and Federal Aviation Regulations.
  • Responsible for enforcing Airport Rules, T-hangar Rules, Minimum Standards, and lease provisions. Write work orders for airfield equipment and facility repairs.
  • Close and open aircraft movement areas as conditions warrant; monitor airfield construction, wildlife activity, weather conditions, and all other airside activities; issue and cancel NOTAMs as required; ensure the protection of runway, taxiway, ramps, safety areas, and aircraft operations
  • Maintain all levels of airport security, including but not limited to, the monitoring of security cameras and DSX access control system.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Formal Education:
    • High school graduate, GED or equivalent.
      AND:
    • Two years of experience in a similar position. Preference will be given to those candidates who possess Airport, or FBO (Fixed Based Operator) experience and knowledge of aviation terminology.
      • Preferred candidates will be knowledgeable in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and their applicability to the Sugar Land Regional Airport.

  • Training (License and/or Certification):
    • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver License.
    • Must be able to obtain a Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate within 12 months of employment.
