NATURE OF WORK
This position serves as an Abuse in Later Life Advocate (ALL Advocate) at the Family Peace Center (FPC) for the Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women, Enhanced Training and Services to End Abuse in Later Life grant. The ALL Advocate will provide survivor-centered, trauma-informed systems navigation, advocacy and support to survivors of abuse in later life aged 50 years and older.
GRANT FUNDING ADVISEMENT
This position is 100% funded by a grant from the United States Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women, Enhanced Training and Services to End Abuse in Later Life grant, awarded to Winnebago County, Illinois. Grant funding for the current grant period expires on September 30, 2023. Acceptance of this position shall not be construed as a guarantee of employment beyond the grant-funded period.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
The ALL Advocate will dedicate 100% of their time providing survivor-centered, trauma-informed advocacy and support to survivors of abuse in later life including domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, neglect, and exploitation committed against victims who are 50 years of age or older. The ALL Advocate will provide services on behalf of the Family Peace Center and will be located at the Family Peace Center 20 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (These essential duties are only illustrative.)
Complete grant goals and objectives according to proposed timelines, including: provide confidential advocacy, support, safety planning, abuse in later life education and legal advocacy to survivors of abuse in later life aged 50 and older while adhering to trauma-informed and survivor driven principles and policies of the FPC; treat all clients, staff and FPC partner agency personnel with kindness, dignity and respect; ensure the confidentiality and information sharing process is followed; engage in activities and practices addressing self-care and vicarious trauma; develop and maintain a working relationships with community agencies and systems including, but not limited to, FPC partner agencies, the 17th Judicial Circuit Court Winnebago County Domestic Violence Coordinated Courts and Lifescape Community Services; participate in training and required collaborative meetings and assist survivors of abuse in later life with accommodation requests, interpretation needs, and access to transportation, so that services can be accessed. The ALL Advocate will assist the ALL Project Coordinator with outreach efforts to
promote services offered through the Enhanced Training and Services to End Abuse in Later Life Program, assist in the development of enhanced program guidelines and policies to increase service and support with survivors of abuse in later life by the FPC, gather and maintain data required for grant reporting purposes and ensure the timely submission of such data to the ALL Grant Manager.
Complete all other tasks and duties as assigned and required by the Executive Director of Mayor’s Office of Domestic and Community Violence Prevention with guidance from the ALL Project Manager.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the overall supervision of the Executive Director of Mayor’s Office of Domestic and Community Violence Prevention,or their designee who reviews work for effectiveness, timeliness, and overall results achieved.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position does not require supervisory duties.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed primarily in a variety of settings, including the Family Peace Center, a multi-agency social service office setting. Work activities occur in a fast-paced, high-demand environment at times.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in human services, social services or the equivalent, and at least one year of experience providing case management or advocacy to persons experiencing abuse in later life including domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, neglect, and exploitation committed against victims who are 50 years of age or older, 40-hour ICADV Domestic Violence Training and other training in confidentiality and mandated reporting and know about the Family Justice Center movement and the purpose of this model and service delivery. Knowledge of best practice interventions for persons in trauma from abuse in later life including domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, neglect, and exploitation committed against victims who are 50 years of age or older. Experience with computer programs, data collection and grant reporting desired. Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, experience and training, which ensures the ability to perform the work, may be substituted for the required experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license.
Forty hour (40) Hour ICADV Domestic Violence training. May be completed within 30 days of hire.
Residency Requirement:
Modified November 15, 2021: All employees (except Police Sworn and Fire Sworn) hired on or after June 1, 2018, shall reside anywhere in Winnebago County or within fifteen (15) miles of Rockford City Hall (425 E. State Street Rockford, IL 61104) within six (6) months after their introductory period. Department Heads shall live within the municipal boundaries of the city of Rockford.
Effective June 1, 2018, all newly hired employees, including newly hired Department Heads, shall live within the municipal boundaries of the City of Rockford within six (6) months of the completion of their introductory period.
Classified employees hired after January 1, 1984, may live anywhere in Winnebago County or anywhere within an area fifteen (15) miles from the Public Safety Building within six (6) months of their date of completion of probation. Employees hired before January 1, 1984, shall be subject to their conditions of employment in effect at that time.
