We are seeking a Paralegal/Legal Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills, with at least one year working in a legal setting.
Attorney support duties include the following:
· Electronically file documents with courts; process documents e-filed in cases
· Calendar meetings and deadlines for attorneys/the firm
· Correspondence: draft, edit, proofread, finalize, send out
· Draft court documents, including notices of appearance, affidavits, and subpoenas; frame up complaints, answers, motions, briefs, and discovery requests and responses
· Transcribe dictation for one attorney
· Preparing exhibits, files, binders, and other materials for attorneys for court, depositions, and meetings
· Assist with preparing and processing evictions for landlord clients
· Communicate with clients and potential clients by email and telephone (and occasionally in person)
· Contact courts and government agencies regarding cases/client matters
· Compile/process/organize documents produced in discovery
Firm/administrative duties, including:
· Reception/answering phones (we do not get a lot of people in our office in person)
· New client intakes (by phone and email)
· Process incoming emails/attachments for client matters
· Prepare/process incoming and outgoing mail
· Scan documents (paperless files)
· Prepare conference rooms for meetings, clean up after meetings
· Order supplies
· Keeping office organized, tidy, and stocked
· Errands (bank, post office, courthouse, Sheriff’s Department, library)
Qualifications:
· 2+ years working in a fast-paced office environment
· 1+ year of experience in a legal setting, law firm preferred
· Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines and remain calm under pressure
· Efficient
· Flexible and dependable; willingness to occasionally stay late and work overtime
· Extremely organized and ability to assist others in being/staying organized
· Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license for occasional errands
Work within our software/apps, including: Microsoft Office 365 suite of products (primarily Word, Excel, OneNote, and SharePoint) – must be proficient in Word and Excel, willing to train on the remainder; web-based contact, time, and billing management system (Clio)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
