Parks Technician II (Irrigation) Job at City and County of Broomfield
The Parks Department is hiring for one full-time, non-exempt Parks Technician to join the Irrigation Crew. This position is regularly scheduled 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. Hours could vary based on weather and department needs.
Hiring Range: $21.68-$25.50/hour
Salary Range: $21.68-$29.33/hour

The City and County of Broomfield is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and professional individual to work in the Irrigation Division of Park Services to help maintain approximately 810 irrigated acres. Well qualified individual would be responsible to maintain approx. 80 irrigated acres.
This class consists of full working unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled work in the maintenance of the City and County's undeveloped and developed park areas . Their primary responsibilities include performing a variety of tasks from routine to moderate difficulty related to the City and County’s maintenance and troubleshooting of a variety of irrigation systems and providing information and assistance to City and County staff and the public.
General Duties:
Performs unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled work in the maintenance of undeveloped and developed park areas and cemetery.
Troubleshoots and maintains a variety of irrigation systems throughout the city that could include but are not limited to municipal buildings, streetscapes, greenbelts, traffic islands, parks, enhanced native areas and sports complexes.
Installs, troubleshoots and repairs mainline and lateral lines; electric control valves; Toro Sentinel controllers, stand-alone controllers or battery operated controllers; booster or variable speed pumps; pressure reducing valves, master valves and flow sensors on domestic or reclaimed water sources.
Repairs and installs irrigation pipe from 1/2” to 12” in diameter including gluing of PVC fittings, using gasket fittings or fusing HDPE Pipe.
Installs and adjusts proper size nozzles in a variety of irrigation heads developed by various manufacturers.
Identifies deficiencies in irrigated areas and makes necessary repairs.
Assists the Irrigation Systems Coordinator with programming of irrigation schedules and run times to obtain maximum water efficiency.
Performs annual testing and necessary repairs to backflow assemblies.
Prepares, develops, and maintains park areas which may include grass and weed mowing and trimming; tree and flower bed planting, watering, and maintenance; aeration; weed eradication; sprinkler irrigation; picking up trash; and snow removal.
Training: High school graduation or GED equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of one year of responsible experience in operation, repair, and installation of turf-type irrigation systems that use a central control system. Experience with reclaimed or raw water irrigation preferred.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record for continued employment. Within one year of hire, obtain a Backflow Assembly Certification from the American Backflow Prevention Association (ABPA) and maintain for continued employment.
New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: written evaluation (if requested), oral board, reference checks, driving record check through DMV, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry check, pre-placement physical.
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The noise level in the environment is usually loud. Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with some weekend and holiday work required. Position also involves on-call duty which requires working weekends on a rotating basis and working all hours during emergency repairs as needed. Travel by pickup truck is required to reach work sites. The incumbent is exposed to the following environmental factors: work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; working in or near moving traffic; fumes or airborne particles; electrical shock; toxic or caustic chemicals; year-round outdoor temperatures and weather conditions; and vibration-may have exposure to blood-borne pathogens. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Please note that the frequency of the activity may depend on the actual assignment in the Park Division as found in a Job Site Evaluation prepared by the Colorado Center for Rehabilitation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee uses hands and/or feet to perform manual tasks such as lifting and digging. The employee is constantly required to talk or hear; perform simple grasping; smell; and perform cervical motions such as flexion, extension, rotation, and sidebending. The employee is constantly to frequently required to stand, walk, push/pull, bend/stoop, and reach forward; frequently required to twist, crouch/kneel/squat, reach below the waist, reach above the shoulder, perform power grasping, and perform fine hand manipulation; and occasionally required to sit, climb vertically, crawl and be in quadruped position, work from heights, and work in confined space. Physical demands are described as medium (exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, and peripheral vision.
