DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
CHA Cambridge Hospital is one of two CHA acute care hospitals north of Boston, MA. It is located between Harvard and Inman Square. Key services include 24-hour Emergency Care, Maternity, Mental Health care, Primary Care, Specialty care, Surgery and overnight hospital care.

Summary:
The Patient Access Representative is responsible for accurate and timely registration of the Hospital patients. Required to keep abreast of changes in insurance plan requirements that pertain to the referral management and point of service collection requirements. Communicate any changes to Registration staff on the day, evening, and weekend shifts. Responsible for training new employees as needed. The overall goal of this position is to ensure high quality service for patients and accuracy of information during pre and post visits.

Responsibilities:

Ensures the accuracy and completeness of daily registrations.
  • Ensures high level of quality service provided to patients maintaining CHA services standards and AIDET expectation
  • Handles reports timeliness and accuracy.
  • Support new employee training
  • Acts as a resource to other Patient Access Staff when questions arise regarding aspects of admitting and registration functions.
  • Collect co-pays within the department.
  • Secures and explains to the patient all necessary signatures, legal and financial including, consent for treatment, consent to bill, and all other signatures required per contractual agreements with third party payer and governmental agencies.
  • Attends department team meetings
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Perform special departmental projects as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Other information:
High School Diploma required, Associate Degree preferred.
Work Experience: Two years of patient access experience within a healthcare setting handling all facets of registration, pre-registration, insurance verification, copayment determination and other related services.
An effective team player with strong interpersonal skills.
Good oral and written skills. Ability to interact and collaborate successfully with patients, nursing and professional staff is essential. Ability to facilitate and resolve/de-escalate issues in a thoughtful, customer-oriented fashion.
Medical terminology, familiarity with third party plans, medical billing and collection required.
Working knowledge in Google Office and Microsoft Office (such as Word, Excel, etc) Knowledge of Epic systems including Grand Central, Prelude and EMR preferred
