Job Description:
North Central Surgical Center is currently seeking a Full-Time Patient Accounts Specialist in our Business Office Department.
Performs account follow up functions with patients to obtain maximum and correct reimbursement of patient accounts.
Proactively works with payers and in-house resources in order to resolve the hospital's patient accounts in a timely and correct manner.
Utilizes research and analytical skills to interpret complex hospital managed care contracts to determine that appropriate reimbursement is received.
Takes patient payments over the phone and posts them to the system
Follows up on call logs from our third party vendors regarding patient accounts
Process financial assistance applications
Completes daily batches and posts patient payments collected from other areas in the hospital
Manage account follow up with insurance providers
Verifying of claim statuses online or over the phone
Confer with insurance carriers by telephone in attempts to determine reason for overdue payment and reviewing terms of service with insurance carriers
Work facility assistance needed (FAN) queues with outstanding claims that were not processed for one reason or another and facilitate billing of those claims
Mail form letters to patients regarding account statuses such as coordination of benefits
Contact providers to obtain additional information and/or documentation to resolve unpaid
Enters comments into Cerner as to how it relates to collection of accounts.
Review accounts to determine liability between patient and insurance provider
Process credit card disputes
Respond to carrier telephone, fax, and email inquiries regarding outstanding claims
Must be able to handle potentially stressful situations and handle multiple tasks at one time.
Assists with other responsibilities of center as deemed necessary by management
Required Skills:
Minimum two year experience in working with patient accounts in billing or other account follow-up
Communication skills: ability to effectively present information to patients, physicians, and other employees of surgery center.
Proficient in computers and relevant software applications
Sets priorities and organizes work
Serves as a resource to other members of the health care team.
Follow the Center's professional conduct and dress code policy.
Communicate effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians and their office staffs, patients and employees.
Provide exceptional customer service
Cerner experience preferred.
