Exciting opportunity to provide new models of care for walk-in/urgent care access including days, evenings and weekends. The new CHA CBHC Cambridge program provides behavioral health evaluation and initial treatment services for individuals of all ages.
Summary:
- Peer Support Specialist for RISE will provide FEP program members the active peer supports that are known to play a crucial role in recovery from mental illness.
- These supports will be in the service of promoting greater independence, consistent engagement in treatment, community integration, and pursuit of each individual’s life goals.
- These peer-to-peer interactions will take place alongside clinical treatment on days when RISE groups are held (currently Tuesdays), as well as virtually or in the community on other days.
- Non-clinic based supports may consist of conversing with program members (either by phone or in person), accompanying them to important events related to school or work, or facilitating RISE group activities (e.g. outdoor activities/games at nearby parks, group social outings).
Responsibilities:
- Work with peers to identify wellness and recovery goals.
- Help patients create and revise their evolving Care Plan that identifies each person’s self-determined goals, as well as objectives and action plans for achieving their goals.
- Model principles of recovery to show by example that recovery is attainable.
- Share own story as appropriate, and ‘walk the road of recovery’ alongside program members.
- Work with peers on specific objectives identified on their Care Plan, ensuring that these specific objectives always refer back to the individual’s treatment plan.
- Facilitate recovery-focused group activities.
- Coordinate with other team members to keep team informed of issues and progress.
- Attend and positively participate in required team and agency meetings.
- Work to increase levels of cultural sensitivity, awareness, and competency regarding person-centered and peer-delivered services.
- Ensure timely completion of all required paperwork.
- Represent and advocate for the values and principles of recovery-oriented care.
- Work with FEP team leaders to develop and support new programming.
- Receive regular weekly supervision from the FEP Clinical Team Leader, seeking additional supervision as needed. Minimum of 30 minutes’ supervision weekly.
- Participate in interdisciplinary FEP team meetings and group supervision as required.
- Intermittently collaborates with FEP program clinicians and milieu coordinator.
- Assist with purchasing food or general supplies for milieu/group activities, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Certified Peer Specialist as determined by the Department of Mental Health.- Experience:
- Must be a self-identified person currently or formerly receiving mental health services; or a self-identified person in recovery from mental illness; or a family member of an individual who is a current or former recipient of mental health services.
- Person must share when applying how they have “lived” personal experience leading to an understanding of the needs of persons with mental health & substance use issues.
