Job Description
The Permit Supervisor position is assigned to the Customer Service Section within the Administration Division and is responsible for supervising the daily operational activities of Customer Service personnel, providing support to section staff, and performing complex customer support duties. The Customer Service Section is responsible for processing building and civil site plans, providing a preliminary review of plans, and routing the plans for review. The section also processes tenant change permits for businesses and assists residents and businesses with questions about Planning and Development processes by phone, email and in person.
Essential Duties:
- Supervises and evaluates the performance of personnel and prioritizes and assigns work
- Is responsible for hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations for supervised staff
- Facilitates staff training to be in harmony with established policies, procedures, and County ordinances
- Informs staff of internal changes
- Verifies staff follows the established policies and procedures
- Develops and updates section policies and procedures
- Provides instructions on submittal processes for electronic documents, tenant changes, and ownership changes
- Assists residents and businesses with more complex questions, requests, and concerns
- Maintains reports on customer data such as quantity, wait and assist time
- Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration, Applied Management, or a related field
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible customer service experience, planning and development customer service experience preferred, including one (1) year of lead experience
- Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience
- Experience with Accela Automation, ePermitHub, or other permitting and electronic plan review software

The County Administrator and County Attorney are appointed by the Board of Commissioners and serve at its pleasure. To implement the Board's policy directives, the County Administrator uses a management team consisting of members of his immediate staff and 14 department directors. The 14 departments that make up the executive side are Police Services, Fire and Emergency Services, Corrections, Communications, Support Services, Financial Services, Community Services, Human Resources, Information Technology Services, Law, Planning and Development, Water Resources, Child Advocacy & Juvenile Services, and Transportation. Each department is run by a director who is charged with managing operations in a manner which stresses the County’s values.
In addition to the executive side of County government, certain services are provided through Constitutional officers and independent elected officials. These external offices are created by the Georgia Constitution or through state law. In Gwinnett, they include the Sheriff, Tax Commissioner, District Attorney, Solicitor, Probate Court Judge, and Chief Magistrate.
