Mesa seeks a Permit Specialist with the following skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills to build relationships and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Possess working knowledge of computers and software such as Microsoft Office Suite and software used for specific technical applications within the department.
  • Possess willingness to accept responsibility for technical adequacy of all output.
  • Manage all permitting activities for Mesa Clients, i.e., Department of Transportation (DOT), locality, Railroad, etc.
  • Ability to manage a large volume of jobs across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function in the position.
  • Possess willingness to develop, promote and comply with Mesa safety requirements.

Education/Experience:

  • A two-year associate degree or equivalent.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains file system of various files/records for assigned projects.
  • Conducts necessary research to determine permits needed, submission requirements, approval timelines and payment options.
  • Prepares files, organizes documentation, and documents in designated order.
  • Conducts records maintenance activities in compliance with guidelines governing record retention.
  • Submits payment on the clients’ behalf to acquire necessary permits for projects.
  • Prepares/Updates application and all necessary paperwork needed to acquire permits.
  • Works closely and communicates with project Designers, Engineers, Program Managers, Project Managers and Clients during the permitting process.
  • Works with Clients and project Designers to troubleshoot and answer permitting questions/concerns from local, city, state, government agencies, etc.
  • Works with subcontractors/vendors to complete deliverables for Waterway Crossings, Railroad Permits, Long Utility Spans, etc.
  • Report progress directly to clients on a regular basis.
  • Utilizes professional communication skills exercising judgment and collaborative skills to achieve outcomes that are satisfactory for all parties involved.

Education

Preferred

Associates or better in Engineering Technology or related field.

Experience

Required

3-5 years: The minimum years of experience for the position should be 3 years. Preferably in the area of submitting or processing permits.
