Planner I or II Job at City of St. Petersburg
This is technical and creative work of moderate complexity in developing, researching, preparing and reviewing, monitoring and maintaining public planning studies and programs. Work involves providing recommendations to ensure program compliance with growth management criteria at the local, state and federal level; and conducting detailed studies, preparing reports and making presentations on land use, housing, transportation, sustainable development, coastal management and resiliency, historic preservation, urban design, public health, and other areas of comprehensive planning activities. Work requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment, initiative, ingenuity and tact; and extensive, productive interaction with City officials, other governmental agencies, commissions, boards, and the public. The Planner I or II will collaborate within an innovative environment and have the inspiring natural beauty, appealing climate, and charming tradition of the Florida Gulf Coast’s premier urban community.
Salary: $52,354 - $95,763**

**The starting salary and selection into a Planner position, at level I or level II, will depend upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for a Planner II starts at $59,405.
To QualifyMinimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
- Have a valid Bachelor’s degree with major course work in city planning, architecture, landscape architecture, or a related field.
- Have experience in customer service, preferably related to planning.
- Be highly proficient in the use of computers and word processing, database, and spreadsheet software, including the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- At the Planner II level, have considerable knowledge of the principles, best practices, emerging trends, and other components of successful city planning.
- At the Planner II level, have professional experience in private or public sector planning activities, or a related field.
- At the Planner I or II level, possess the presentation and communication skills necessary to lead, educate, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
- Have some experience in municipal development review and planning activities.
- Have some experience in conducting research and writing briefs and reports, preferably related to planning.
- Have a valid Master’s degree.
- Possess and maintain the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.
- Have a basic understanding of statistical concepts and research methodology used in data collection and report presentation.
- Have some knowledge of graphics and reproduction techniques.
- Are proficient in the use of a computer and communication software, including experience with emerging website and social media tools.
