Plan Examiner work examples: Examines commercial and private building plans to ensure compliance with building code regulations. Reviews building plans for completeness and accuracy. Examines individual plan components to ensure that all code mandated items are included. Calculates footage between building components, such as doors, windows, and parking areas and amount of area occupied by components to ensure compliance with code. Note instances of noncompliance on plans and corrective sheet and suggests modifications to bring plans into compliance. Approves and signs plans meeting code requirements. Provides code information to individuals planning buildings. Testifies at appeal hearings regarding buildings alleged to be not in compliance with codes. Supervises inspectors and support staff in absence of Chief Building Inspector. Performs related duties as assigned or required.

1). Five (5) years experience working with building construction plans including building
codes.

2). Possess a valid Louisiana driver's license.

3). High school graduate or GED.

4). Must have verbal facility; tact and diplomacy; and the ability to gather and evaluate
data.

5). Successfully attain certification through the Southern Building Code Congress
International as a one or two family building inspector within one (1) year of hire,
or within period as extended by the Director of Public Works.

Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station. Requires visual perception and discrimination. Requires ability to communicate orally. Job must be performed with or without accommodations.

Work Environment: Tasks are regularly performed in doors in an office environment. There is limited exposure to extreme weather conditions. May have normal exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise
