Job Summary:

The Prep Cook is responsible for assisting the kitchen staff in the preparation of food items, ensuring the kitchen is clean and organized, and following food safety and sanitation standards. The Prep Cook is expected to work collaboratively with the rest of the kitchen team and maintain a high standard of quality and consistency in food preparation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepares food items as directed by the head chef or sous chef.
• Measures and mixes ingredients according to recipe specifications.
• Chops, slices, and dices vegetables, fruits, and meats.
• Cleans and prepares seafood, poultry, and meats for cooking.
• Portions food items accurately.
• Follows food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper storage and labeling of ingredients.
• Maintains a clean and organized kitchen area, including equipment, utensils, and work surfaces.
• Assists in inventory management by monitoring stock levels and reporting any shortages or discrepancies.
• Follows all recipes and ensures consistency in food preparation.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the head chef or sous chef.

Requirements:

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent

Experience:

• Some experience working in a professional kitchen is preferred

Skills:

• Knowledge of basic food preparation techniques, including chopping, slicing, and dicing
• Ability to follow recipes and portion food items accurately
• Understanding of food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper storage and labeling of ingredients
• Attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency in food preparation
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with other kitchen staff
• Physical stamina to stand for long periods of time and perform repetitive tasks
• Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays

Certifications:

None required, but a Food Handler's Card may be preferred or required by some employers or local health departments.
