Description: The Preschool Teacher works in a team approach, sharing in responsibility for managing and implementing classroom routines and activities. All employees are required to uphold and personify our core values of being amazing, being curious, to keep reaching, and to be and have character.
Qualifications:
- Meet all EEC requirements for Preschool Teacher qualification
- At least one year of experience with preschoolers preferred
- Have documentation of a current physical examination (within two years) and immunizations
- Pediatric First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain within 4 months of hire)
Responsibilities:
- Provide for children's basic needs, including health and safety, diapering/toileting, and developing and maintaining a trusting and positive relationship
- Establish and maintain relationships built on trust, respect, confidentiality, collaboration, and cooperation among coworkers and families
- Be able to participate in activities with children at their eye level, to move, sit, stand, and kneel, and to be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Scaffold learning experiences to enhance each child’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development, while respecting each child’s temperament and approach to learning
- Have developmentally appropriate expectations of children, and ability to respectfully communicate those expectations
- Help to create meaningful curriculum that incorporates language and literacy, cognitive skills, science and nature studies, creative art, and fine and gross motor activities
- Use a strength based and trauma sensitive approach to discipline (redirection, offer of choices, social problem solving)
- Observe and use documentation to support children’s learning, development, for assessment, and for curriculum planning
- Help maintain daily written communication with families, and with monthly newsletters
- Help prepare progress reports and participate in parent-teacher conferences
- Help maintain a clean and organized classroom, and share in the housekeeping responsibilities
