GENERAL SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Corewell Health East, the president is accountable for the operational and clinical oversight and strategy of the assigned market and all related ambulatory services. The president is responsible for all aspects of the quality/ safety, service and financial performance of the organization. He/she serves as the principle liaison within Corewell Health East and with the surrounding community leadership, government officials, and local medical staff. The president supervises the following direct reports: chief medical officer, chief nursing officer; chief operating officer; vice president, finance; vice president, human resources; and patient safety officer.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Corewell Health Dearborn Hospital. Corewell Health Dearborn has proudly served residents across Southeast Michigan since 1953. With 632 beds, Beaumont, Dearborn is a major teaching and research hospital and home to three medical residency programs in partnership with Wayne State University School of Medicine. Corewell Health Dearborn is verified as a Level II trauma center and accredited by the Joint Commission as a primary stroke center. The hospital is also known for clinical excellence and innovation in the fields of orthopedics, neurosciences, women’s health, heart and vascular and cancer care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Oversees safety, quality of care, and service always striving to achieve top decline outcomes. Functions in a matrixed and partnership arrangement with other Corewell Health East senior leaders, physicians and medical staff leaders, departments, and functions.
- Leads initiatives to continuously improve patient and family-centered care, often in coordination with other sites and leaders.
- Sets the business strategy for the hospital to align with the system strategy and promotes the mission, vision, and values consistent with the Corewell Health East.
- Builds a senior management team that fulfills the Mission of Corewell Health East at the hospital.
- Creates and supports a culture at the hospital that is consistent with Corewell Health East and emphasizes the needs and desires of patients and families served by the organization.
- Supports employee and patient education to enhance knowledge, skills and necessary behaviors to facilitate health.
- Adopts an approach to hospital-wide performance improvement to ensure important processes and activities are measured, assessed and improved systematically.
- Directs the budgetary and financial performance of the hospital.
- Participates in system-wide policy decisions and other system efforts affecting the hospital.
- Collaborates with community leaders and hospitals, physician and facility team members to design services.
- Accountable for the leadership of all hospital staff, delegating and coordinating to achieve quality and cost-effective outcomes.
- Directs the overall operation of the hospital's entire inpatient and outpatient services as required by the Medicare Conditions of Participation and The Joint Commission.
- Providing programs, services and an organizational climate conducive to attracting, retaining and motivating executives and receiving the kinds of people commitments necessary for the hospital to accomplish its mission.
- The external relation activities which are intended to establish and maintain attitudes of confidence, respect and support on the part of various publics which the organization serves and/or depends on for support.
- Compliance with applicable voluntary and regulatory statutes and standards.
In discharging these responsibilities, the president:
- Works with the Corewell Health East COO and Corewell Health East executives in the development of basic objectives, policies and operating plans for the organization.
- Acts as the chief strategist in the preparation of plans development and growth of the organization in response to the development of the health care needs of the community and consistent with Corewell Health Strategic Plan.
- Ensures that hospital policies are uniformly understood, properly interpreted and implemented by the management team.
- Ensures the attainment of hospital objectives and goals through the effective administration of business operations.
- Responds to the community's need for quality health care services by monitoring the organization's clinical activities and closely coordinating with Medical Staff in achieving and maintaining the required standards of clinical performance.
- Analyzes the operating results of the organization and its principle components relative to established goals and objectives and ensures that appropriate measures are taken to correct unsatisfactory performance and conditions.
- Ensures compliance with all regulations governing health care delivery and the results of accrediting agencies by continually monitoring the overall operation of the organization's programs and initiating changes of broad scope when and where required.
- Develops and maintains a plan of organization. Establishes policies to ensure adequate management development and/or provide for stable management succession.
- Interviews, hires, directs, develops, evaluates and, when necessary, disciplines subordinate executive staff.

- Education / Training:
- Requires a master’s degree in Hospital Administration, Business Administration, clinical discipline, or related area.
- Work Experience:
- Requires a minimum of ten years of progressively more responsible administrative and managerial experience in the health care industry. Experience in a complex acute care facility of comparable size is ideal.
- Certification, Licensure, Registration:
- None required.

- Analytical Demands: An extremely high level of analytical ability and problem-solving skills to plan, organize and direct the work of the Corporation and develop long range plans for the organization and ensure that the hospital adopts sound management philosophies.
Operations/Execution: While a strong premium is placed on building effective relationships across the hospital and health system (with physicians, nurses, system leaders, peer hospital presidents, direct reports and staff), the president must drive exceptional operational and financial performance of the hospital. A proven track record of achieving operational excellence is required. Using sound data and analytics, the president will ensure effective, rational decisions are made to consistently improve the institution.
