Evansville Day School (EDS), in partnership with parents, o ers a student-centered, college preparatory program supported by a challenging and comprehensive curriculum that encourages each student from Junior Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 to strive for excellence in mind, body, and human spirit. EDS was founded in 1946 and remains the only independent school in the southwestern Indiana region. The school enrolls approximately 270 students and boasts a 40-acre wooded campus, an impressively diverse student body, and 100% four-year college placement.

Job Description:
This position partners with the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) coordinator and Primary teachers in delivering a premier, experiential-based program to Day School’s youngest students. The PS
Team teacher will work to support the process by which children and adults develop fundamental emotional and social competencies and experiences. The teacher will work to build and deepen a positive school climate and culture by training on how to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Additionally, the teacher will instruct curriculum in library studies.
A successful candidate manages the classroom e ectively with compassion, energy, attention to detail, organization, and play and communicates e ectively with colleagues, students, and families.
Responsibilities:
● To coordinate in partnership with the SEL Coordinator as well as primary teachers to develop age-appropriate classroom units and workshops on leadership, mindfulness, self-awareness, relationship skills, social awareness, and decision-making skills toward our goal of creating globally minded and balanced students
● Intentionally establish a safe, positive, inclusive classroom environment using best practices in social-emotional development
● Communicate regularly with parents and other stakeholders
● Collaborate with Primary School art, technology, performing arts, science, Spanish, and library/innovation teachers to provide interdisciplinary, experiential learning opportunities
● Participate in the life of the school based on interests, talents, and experience
● Partner with the Center for Academic Success to ensure support and enrichment for identi ed students
● Supervise lunch and recess in rotation with other sta members
● Pursue ongoing professional development
● Maintain classroom budget
● Participate in (faculty, divisional, and departmental meetings)
● Other duties as assigned by the Head of School and/or Head of Primary School
Quali cations:
● Four-year degree, in elementary education or early childhood (Master’s degree, preferred)
● Experience teaching primary school students
● Innovative and exible, and embraces Day School’s Portrait of a Graduate
● Excellent work ethic, organizational, and interpersonal skills
● Appreciation for the unique character and special demands of working at an independent school
● Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team
● Ability to meet deadlines, balance competing priorities, and maintain a sense of humor
