Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Principal Engineer will be responsible for the development and implementation of new product development projects for manufacturing. Scoping out risks for manufacturing and establishing a plan to mitigate. The individual will take the projects from original concept through to final implementation while ensuring long-term sustainment and support.

This position works in a team environment and uses engineering expertise, project management, and leadership abilities to contribute to the development and manufacturing for existing and future operations for Milwaukee Tool.

Specific duties include:

Manufacturing Process Development:

  • Responsible for researching and recommending technology, new or proven, that will deliver effective and efficient solutions.
  • Design and deliver innovative automated or mechanized solutions for new and existing facilities including calculation of operating cost, design of operation flow, selection of technology and equipment and facility layout design.
  • Identify product/process risks through machine FEMA and/or process FEMA.
  • Identify and justify through ROI analysis technology that will deliver efficiency to Milwaukee Tool
  • Consult and approve of new technology for industrial automation, including testing plans and requirements. Ensuring equipment meets Milwaukee Tool automation standards.
  • Effectively utilize data when analyzing issues and problem solving.
  • Anticipates the company's needs and proposes alternative technical solutions where appropriate.
  • Technical working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as the following, but not limited to: stamping, machining, injection molding, riveting, sonic welding, heat staking, industrial decorating, plating, robotics, controls, and forging.
  • Strong blend of business, operations and technology design and implementation experience with specific focus on building robust automation solutions in support of manufacturing
  • Maintain automation, machine, and integration safety standards, including ergonomics, set by both Milwaukee Tool and regulatory bodies such as OSHA or ISA.

Project Management Skills:

  • Provide project management support in deployment of new technology, equipment, and processes
  • Support, participate and perform commissioning duties as needed, including system validation, system training and documentation
  • Provide regular updates on projects including early awareness of possible issues, escalating to management and providing a risk reduction plan.
  • Ensure project scope is outlined and be the main point of contact for all team members, vendors, and external entities.

Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for machine and/or concept evaluationsEstimated yearly travel: 10%-25%

Most trips will be 1-2 week with possibilities of weekend travel

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering with a minimum of 5 years Manufacturing Engineering experience required
  • Masters or Advanced degree in engineering, business, and/or operations preferred
  • Certification in automation & integration safety standards a plus
  • Six Sigma green belt certified a plus
  • Advanced computer knowledge and skills using MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, MS Project, and Solidworks/AutoCAD/NX
  • Excellent organizational and facilitation skills
