The Department Manager is responsible for the overall operations of Production Support in a particular plant(s) (Winchester, VA) and performs duties to ensure its success. Help to fulfill the needs of the customer by communicating their needs and goals to team leads. The department manager also helps to keep the costs of maintenance and repairs in check, by understanding and communicating financial statements, being aware of trends, goals and objectives.


The Department Manager will also manage and support the various production and facilities maintenance disciplines, i.e. Electrical, Mechanical, and other maintenance functions, to promote an environment of continuous improvement with the goal of World Class Maintenance status. This includes oversight of hiring, training, scheduling, financial planning, project coordination, employee evaluations and employee performance improvement.


Plan, direct, and co-ordinate the operations of the maintenance department. Manage and schedule maintenance of building and production areas. Ensure that production, building, utilities and maintenance equipment is well maintained and in safe operating condition at all times.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure department operations are consistent with our policies and responsibilities to employees, customers, visitors and vendors
  • Promote and enforce workplace safety procedures and policies
  • Co-ordinate financial and budget activities for maximum operational efficiency
  • Review performance data (financial, sales, spending and activity reports) to monitor and measure productivity, goal progress, and activity levels
  • Organize and manage department meetings
  • Develop a proactive approach to maintenance with emphasis on increasing planned maintenance and reducing reactive maintenance.
  • Bid out projects and solicit proposals for services to be performed under contract
  • Research new products, services, designs, layouts, and equipment to improve efficiencies and minimize cost
  • Audit energy consumption and work with other departments to implement energy conservation measures and achieve corporate energy reduction goals.
  • Coordination and oversight of projects including scope of work, budget planning, timelines, equipment specifications and management of contractors
  • Manage facilities Risk Management program working with property prevention insurers

Qualifications - Preferred:

Education

  • High school diploma or GED

Experience

  • Seven to ten years’ maintenance and/or manufacturing experience coupled with related continuing education and supervisory experience

Required Skills

  • 5 years in a leadership position overseeing maintenance and/or manufacturing operations
  • Understand basic operation of Microsoft Office Tools: Excel, Word, Outlook
  • World Class Maintenance exposure: Central Store Concept, Scheduled Maintenance, & Predictive Maintenance
  • LEAN Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement
  • Experience with building systems, automation, construction, production maintenance in a manufacturing environment
  • Project management experience in all aspects of facility, building construction, support systems, manufacturing maintenance, etc.
  • Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills and be comfortable interacting with peers, management, internal customers, contractors, agencies, and organizations
  • Must be self-motivated with strong team-building skills
