Job Description
Position will support the ESTEEMED LEADERS program, an NIH-sponsored project in Biomedical and Chemical Engineering focused on recruiting and retaining historically underrepresented undergraduate students in Biomedical Engineering by performing general administrative duties to recruit new students, such as preparing and disseminating marketing materials, scheduling information sessions for prospective high school students, and planning recruitment events. They will manage operations for the summer bridge program for ESTEEMED LEADERS, including securing student housing, communicating with students prior to their arrival, scheduling events, and facilitating a smooth transition to campus. During the academic year, they will work with the grant PIs to administer the program including scheduling student meetings and lab rotations, monitoring student progress, and managing program expenses. They will be the primary point of contact for students in the ESTEEMED LEADERS program. They should be someone who brings passion for broadening participation in Biomedical Engineering and is committed to developing relationships with students in the program to motivate, support, and encourage their persistence.

This position will also work closely with the department staff and the chair to support day-to-day operations in the Department of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering.

Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of administrative or program coordination experience in an academic setting are desirable.

Job Specific Qualifications
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse body of students and faculty.
  • Knowledge of student development and higher education practices preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including MS Word and Excel and familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and to collaborate easily with other staff members.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting student recruitment activities scheduling information events with high-schools, preparing advertising material, compiling student applications, providing information to prospective students and their families throughout the application process, and promoting the program via social media.
  • Manage day-to-day programming summer bridge events, arranging meetings, notifying students, scheduling mentoring meetings, student lab rotation schedule, tracking student lab assignments.
  • Manage program resources supplies purchase, poster printing, arranging conference travel
  • Manage program budget program purchases, travel expense reconciliations and reimbursements
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the ESTEEMED LEADERS program and successfully manage student communications and serve as an informal mentor.
