Job Summary

The City of Salem is currently looking for a Parks Project Coordinator to join our team!

What you will do:
The Parks Project Coordinator will act as the crew leader to Parks maintenance employees, providing general work guidance and direction, as well as specific assignments during events that utilize the parks systems such as Fourth of July, music festivals, movies in the park or races.

Work schedule will be Monday-Friday and will include working holidays when applicable.

Additional information on job responsibilities:
Parks Project Coordinator work involves responsibility for performing skilled and/or technical work in one or a variety of areas including maintenance, repair, and construction of parks or City facilities; turf maintenance, irrigation and park facility functions; and the coordination of supplemental labor forces, and volunteers from the community to perform park maintenance activities and repair projects.

Crew leader responsibilities include pre-planning large or multiple-location work assignments; estimating time and materials for projects; ensuring proper tools, equipment, and supplies are available for assignments; ensuring work is performed with all safety precautions and to standards; directing the work at the project site; and resolving on-site problems. Work involves an extensive amount of decision-making and judgment about materials, methods, and quality of work assigned.

What are the minimum qualifications?
  • Must pass the pre-employment background check and/or physical exam.
  • Must have an Oregon Drivers license and have a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 9 months of hire.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D., supplemented by trade or professional training technical training or course work in park and landscape maintenance, landscape architecture, horticulture, arboriculture, irrigation, or closely related field in the area of specialty; and,
  • Three years experience in maintenance, repair, and construction of public improvements, park and recreation areas, or other facilities, particularly within area of assignment or specialty, including lead responsibilities; or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Commercial Pesticide Applicator's license
  • CPR/AED Certification
