The Quality Manager – Mechanical Group provides leadership and management for the quality function and sustainment of the quality and lean culture for the division at the plant level. This role establishes, maintains and optimizes an effective quality management system. Implements the division’s quality plan at the plant level to achieve the overall quality objectives. Enhance and improve the organizational products and services, problem-solving tools, prevention methods, quality-at-the-source and continual improvement techniques. Reports to the Plant Operations Manager BG. As management’s representative for quality, manages department resources, and coordinates the implementation of the quality management system at the plant to cost-effectively facilitate quality and compliance. Interacts routinely with all functional areas, as well as, with customers, field sales, regulatory agencies, division/group/corporate management, purchasing, engineering, and suppliers.
Under the general supervision of the Plant Operations Manager - BG, the Quality Manager – Mechanical Group provides leadership at the plant for the development, implementation, and administration of the Quality functions to ensure product safety, integrity, and conformance with respect to customer, quality assurance requirements. This Manager is a member of the Operations Leadership Team and is responsible for formulating and executing a strategic quality plan for the business, managing vendor quality programs that impact the facility, and handling customer complaints through root cause analysis. As a member of the Operations Leadership Team, this Manager has a comprehensive understanding of the concepts and principles within Quality and knowledge of these elements in other relevant functional areas so s/he can participate in the resolution of issues that have an impact beyond Quality and/or impact multiple areas. This role reports into the site daily; this position is not remote.
Scope & Responsibilities
Essential Functions Performed:
- Communicates customer, regulatory and organizational requirements to assure product quality, contract compliance and customer satisfaction.
- Oversees the effective documentation and implementation of the quality management system to assure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements and the standards set by corporate/division policies.
- Coordinates necessary plant personnel for internal, customer, and third-party quality system audits.
- Maintains a corrective action system to analyze and correct nonconforming conditions and complaints.
- Effectively interact with Purchasing, Engineering, and Operations to maintain product supply and assist with new product launches and cost reductions.
- Implements the performance measurements necessary to effectively evaluate organizational performance and trends in product quality, services, customer satisfaction and the cost of poor quality. Uses the results of performance evaluation to target improvement efforts.
- Assess supplier capabilities and monitor supplier quality to ensure desired levels of performance.
- Maintains customer quality satisfaction through the implementation and use of programs to control raw materials, in-process materials, production process, environmental conditions & finished products
- Conducts or coordinates customer/vendor visits and third-party audits.
- Executes plans for continuous improvement for operations and organizational special projects.
- Prepares and oversees customer site visits and audits.
- Leads QA Team to develop specifications, Bills of Materials, recipes and inspection plans for raw materials and finished goods.
- Ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations issued by OSHA, EPA, and other federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. Works closely with Plant Operations Manager - BG on reported Quality Issues for Holley.
- Assess Purchasing / Buyer with MRB locations and Vendor Scorecard improvement initiatives
- Works directly with all Operations Managers to help address any reported defects / nonconformance events to drive effective countermeasures and controls are in place and effective.
- Develop and maintain quality check sheets, assist Operators as needed to ensure accurate driving positive change and measurable results.
- Manage and maintain the company’s quality inspection and product release programs for in-coming and in-process materials, components, processes, and finished goods.
- Ensures all quality records are maintained and ensure all test equipment in the operation have established validation and calibrations to control part quality.
- Communicate with suppliers and customers and ensure the execution of corrective actions and compliance with applicable specifications.
Qualifications (Education/Experience required):
- Bachelor’s degree in Quality, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5-7 years of demonstrated Quality Leadership experience of work teams in a manufacturing environment
- Experience managing a team(s) of Quality employees
- Strong cross-functional strategic leadership experience, communication and teamwork skills with demonstrated success in managing people and multiple projects
- Experience with quality improvement tools and techniques (i.e., Lean, Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control, and Failure Mode & Effects Analysis).
- Strong DMAIC or PDCA continuous improvement skills for problem solving and cost savings
- Strong PPAP and PFMEA knowledge
- Exceptional communication skills
- Strong communication and diplomacy skills to guide and influence others
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing procedures, production methods (including machining and welding, kitting), shop standards, team building, SPC and modern quality assurance applications.
- Demonstrated planning, problem solving, data analysis, GD&T, blueprint reading, organizing, inter-personal, and communication skills with proven leadership skills and decision-making abilities.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours to support the needs of a three-shift plant operation and travel when required
- Proficiency in a Windows operating environment, including email and Microsoft Office software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of International Standard ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems (QS-9000 as applicable for automotive sector).
- Certification by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) as a Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB), or Certified Quality Manager (CQMgr) is preferred, but not required.
- Knowledge / Proficiency in Smartsheets is a plus
- Detailed understanding of how all areas of a manufacturing and warehouse interact to contribute to the business and to meet customers’ expectations
- Basic commercial awareness as it relates to competition and the latest developments in the industry
