Ranked Choice Voting Boston Coalition Director Job at Almquist & Associates
Rank the Vote (RTV) is a non-partisan, 501c3 grassroots organization founded by veteran activists who built the largest statewide movement for RCV in the nation. Our mission is to help local activists in every state build volunteer organizations that successfully develop the massive capacity needed to advance RCV in the public arena, eventually leading to a cascade of state-by-state legal enactments of RCV.
Voter Choice Massachusetts (VCMA) is a non-partisan, politically diverse, non-profit organization dedicated to educating the Massachusetts public about Ranked Choice Voting.
RTV and VCMA seek a Coalition Director to launch an 18-month education and advocacy project to bring Ranked Choice Voting to Boston city elections. Our primary objective is the passage of a home rule petition by the Boston City Council in 2024 that enacts RCV for all elected city offices, including the mayor, district, and at-large city councilor, and any elected school committee seats that may be added in the future.
The Coalition Director will report to the RTV Executive Director, Nathan Lockwood, and will also take input and direction from VCMA Policy Director, Greg Dennis.
A successful candidate in this role would be positioned as a top choice for a leadership position advancing the referendum ballot campaign and ongoing RCV movements in Massachusetts.
Responsibilities
With support and direction from RTV and VCMA, the Coalition Director will:
- Build a coalition of political, community, business, and faith organizations in support of RCV in Boston.
- Be a chief spokesperson for RCV policy and implementation options in the Boston Community.
- Build and cultivate a diverse Advisory Board in support of RCV in Boston made up of highly accomplished VIPs from various backgrounds and disciplines. Engage the Advisory Board to assist with strategic goals around coalition-building, advocacy, networking, and fundraising.
- Manage and develop a high-functioning hybrid volunteer and staff-based grassroots organization focused on executing the RTV-US playbook to advance ranked choice voting in Boston.
- Build a network of the affiliated high-performing ward and/or neighborhood chapters, with a reporting structure into the citywide organization. A combination of volunteers and staff will lead these. Local chapters will focus on local live outreach, community education events, endorsements, fundraising, volunteer engagement, and relationship building.
- Ensure an organizational culture that empowers staff and volunteers to take action on behalf of the coalition within appropriate messaging, conduct, financial, etc., parameters established by the organization.
- Ensure the organization’s culture fosters and emphasizes face-to-face interaction, mutual respect, appreciation of all forms of diversity, in-person meetings, and celebrations. This is, among other things, to ensure a strong group identity and sense of relatedness to reinforce the commitment to and enjoyment of the hard work of organizing.
- Ensure the organization maintains and tracks detailed and accurate metrics related to people, money, and endorsements.
