Job Summary:

The Registered Dietitian creates nutrition plans to improve the health and physical conditions of patients. Their main duties include analyzing patients’ health status, goals, and dietary restrictions, tracking clients’ dietary intake and progress, and educating patients on how to maintain a balanced diet for better health.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review health records of VALORA patients and identify prospective patients that will benefit from nutrition counseling.
  • Contact by phone each patient who is willing to work one on one with a Registered Dietitian on health management. The Registered Dietitian will be asked to contact patients who are referred by clinic providers, registered nurses, or patients who want to work directly with a Registered Dietitian.
  • Perform nutritional counseling and make decisions about appropriate goals and action steps, including exercise and diet, for the patient.
  • Assess the patient’s progress and future needs with regard to exercise or diet plan, and for documenting thoroughly in the Case Management database each encounter with the patient.
  • Follow any plan of care established with the patient’s primary care provider and complement with any additional nutritional plan.
  • Facilitate presentations to patient groups on various topics related to health and wellness.
  • Work with members of the wellness team to develop educational materials and protocols based on patients ‘ needs and company health events.
  • Participate in community outreach events organized by VALORA including: health fairs, sales events, presentations, etc.
  • Stay up to date on Continuing Education, state licensure, and RD Certification.

Qualifications/Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in nutrition, health education, related field
  • Completion of Dietetic Internship
  • Registered Dietitian Certification (required)
  • Current Registered Dietitian License in Texas (required)
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Reliable transportation commute to local medical offices
  • Understanding of Federal Medicare program, Medicare Advantage Plans, and the medical insurance is a plus
  • Excellent and effective written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortability with presenting to small and large groups of individuals
  • Ability to establish working relationships, resolve interpersonal conflicts, and apply basic staff etiquette in dealing with others
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to learn new procedures and adapt quickly to change
  • Innovative, motivated, organized, and team player
  • Follow through with commitments.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proactive and self-starter
