Responsibilities*
This is a DECENTRALIZED FLOAT RN position which includes staffing assignments in multiple adult surgical specialty ambulatory clinics. Extensive knowledge about pre-surgical and post-surgical care management is a critical skill for this position. The position will be focused on, but not limited to, the following surgery areas:
Surgery
Acute Care Surgery I (ACS I)
Acute Care Surgery II (ACS II)—Non-Trauma, Trauma, and Burn
Colorectal Surgery (CRS)
Endocrine Surgery (GSE)
Hepatobiliary (HPB)
Minimally Invasive (MIS)/Bariatric Surgery)
Thoracic Surgery (THSU)
The DECENTRALIZED FLOAT RN will:
Provide coordinated FLOAT nursing care to adult surgical patients and their families in the specialty settings noted above.
Participate as a member of a collaborative and multi-disciplinary team in fast-paced surgically based clinics to provide efficient and effective care.
Provide tele-health nursing care including triage calls and communication from patients, families, clinicians, and other healthcare team members.
Provide patient education for acute and chronic conditions including pre-operative and post-operative care, direct clinical care, and nursing documentation using the Epic system.
Perform pre-operative and post-operative teaching and counseling and obtain informed consent for a variety of surgical procedures.
Assist/support faculty and provide nursing care in clinic, or a designated treatment room, with minor and complex procedures.
Collaborate with other health team members and associated resource persons to ensure continuity of care across all care environments.

Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Required Qualifications*
As evidenced by interviews, recent performance appraisals and reference feedback: Current license to practice Nursing in the State of Michigan. Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Registered Nurse. Minimum of two (2) years (within past five (5) years) RN experience providing direct inpatient or outpatient care to the adult surgical patient population.
? NOTE: In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.

Desired Qualifications*
BSN Previous experience as a float nurse in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting. Ambulatory care nursing experience, inclusive of telephone triage, of patient populations with complex chronic conditions. Experience with care coordination and managing complex patient populations. Broad range of clinical experience. Proficiency in computer and keyboarding skills, using an electronic medical record, and Microsoft Office experience.
Reliable transportation to drive to varying clinic locations.
Work Schedule
Hours: 8 hour shifts, 40 hours per week
Days/ Shift: Monday – Friday with variable days and hours depending on clinic needs
Location: Primarily Taubman Center with potential inclusion of other locations based on growth of the outpatient services and/or departments. Additional locations include, but are not limited to East Ann Arbor, West Ann Arbor, Brighton, Canton, Northville, Livonia, Chelsea, Domino’s Farms.
Note: All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
