Rehab Therapy Tech III-Performs moderately complex-level rehabilitation therapy work with patients in a Forensic Psychiatric setting (Adolescent Forensic Program/Maximum Security Unit-Music Therapy). Work involves providing rehabilitative services to clients with mental impairments utilizing the principles of social learning. Works under moderate supervision of Board Certified Music Therapist and Lead Rehab Therapy Tech with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

Must understand that duties, location, and shift patterns are subject to change as determined by the administration to meet the needs of the hospital. Occupational hazards include the potential for physical injury and stress associated with serving persons with a potential for violent behavior.

Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

Conducts groups or direct services to patients utilizing the fundamental principles of social learning to include modeling, shaping, over-learning, reinforcement, extinction, and generalization. (60%)
Initiates and supervises special functions for the MSU population. (5%)
Ensures the safety of all persons served as evidenced by providing a safe and risk-free environment. (5%)
Responsibly prepares supplies/equipment for all therapeutic activities. (5%)
Completes documentation of necessary patient related information and maintains accurate information relating to the support of the persons served. (5%)
Attends and or provides necessary training in order to stay competent to perform the assigned duties of the position. All training is completed as scheduled and within the designated hospital guidelines. (5%)
Adheres to HHSC, NTSH, and Rehab Policies and Procedures. (5%)
Employee actively participates and/or serves in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. (5%)
Performs related work as assigned. (5%)


Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of therapeutic methods and techniques in the rehabilitation therapy area of specialization.
Knowledge of the methods and techniques of planning and conducting activities for mentally and physically ill patients.
Skill in the use of equipment, tools, and materials used in therapeutic service activities.
Computer knowledge and skills.
Ability to provide rehabilitative therapy and to communicate effectively.
Ability/willingness to work with supervisor, co-workers and follow established policy and procedures.
Must continually present self as a role model to all persons in contact with.
Ability to exercise good discretionary judgement in the conduct of duties.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:

Experience in therapeutic work. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.
