Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Reimbursement Officer I for the Madden Mental Health Center located in Hines, Illinois to investigate the financial status of liable relatives, patients or patients' estates and their ability to pay for State-provided care. Presents suits to the Attorney General’s Office for filing and interviews patients and/or relatives to obtain information used in determination of financial liability. Prepares legal documents; testifies at court hearings. Maintains files of reimbursement records; initiates and acknowledges correspondence. Explains and interprets statues, policies and the basis of the charges to patients, liable relatives, conservators, attorneys, legislators and other public officials. Completes applications for Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Job Responsibilities

  • Investigates the financial status of liable relatives, patients or patients' estates and their ability to pay for State-provided care at Madden Mental Health Center.

  • Prepares legal documents which are forwarded to the central office for processing by the Attorney General in the proper county and for the incompetent or decedents estate documents to the Circuit Clerks Office for filing.

  • Maintains files of reimbursement records.

  • Initiates and acknowledges correspondence.

  • Completes applications for Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

  • Composes and keyboards letters, correspondence, copying and filing.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, with courses in accounting, economics or business administration, preferably including courses in insurance, estate and probate law.
  • Requires one years of work experience in the reimbursement field.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to analyze records, accounts, forms and legal documents to ascertain financial condition, completeness, accuracy and sufficiency in compliance with State laws and departmental rules and regulations.

  • Requires ability to effectively communicate to a wide range of people, procedures, methods and/or laws pertaining to the reimbursement program.

  • Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance

  • Requires ability to pass the Illinois Department of Human Services background check.

  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
