This position will be in support of Predictive Toxicology Team at the Airman Biosciences Division of the 711th Human Performance Wing, Air Force Research Laboratory. The Predictive Toxicology team is seeking a Research Associate/Data Modeler with programming expertise both Python and R, and experience in database development and management. A minimum of a master’s degree in Applied Math, Statistics, Engineering or related field is preferred along with two years of relevant experience. The successful candidate will be required to perform analysis of large data sets, quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR), machine learning and dynamic modeling. Additional duties include development of analytics and data visualization tools, as well as data management and automation protocols. Processing data sets containing chemical toxicity, exposure and biokinetics will also be involved. Proficiency in technical writing and developing presentations would be beneficial. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, work well in a team environment, and welcome the challenge of implementing novel modeling approaches. US citizenship is required for this position.
HJF is seeking a Research Associate I or II (Data Modeling) to perform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. May exercises technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies. May provide limited guidance to lower-level Research Associates. This is the second of four levels within the Research Associate series.

Responsibilities
  • Performs routine data analysis and basic interpretation and verifies and corrects data entry.
  • Trains junior laboratory staff in laboratory techniques and processes, as needed.
  • Conducts research in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff.
  • Performs complex laboratory tests, determinations, and analyses involving multiple procedures and a variety of technical approaches.
  • Documents current or new procedures or protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing, and/or statistical estimation.
  • Analyzes and prepares reagent and/or assay product documentation. Organizes and procures needed reagents, performs experiments, analyzes data, and documents results.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures.
  • ability to meet deadlines of projects.
  • good communication and analytical skills.
  • Languages: Python, R, Java, SQL, C++
  • Data science, big data analysis ("omics"), biostatistics, ordinary differential equation dynamic modeling.
  • Preferred experience: QSAR machine learning, systems biology modeling, predictive toxicology/pharmacology, chemical pharmacokinetics (PBPK, IVIVE and HTTK).

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree required.
  • Level I: Minimum of 0-2 years' experience required.
  • Level II: Minimum of 3-5 years' experience required.
