Description and Responsibilities:
Open Sky is seeking compassionate individuals who are looking to work for a large human service organization where there are opportunities to build a rewarding and meaningful career. We are hiring for the Futures program in Northborough, MA, a 9-bed group care program for youth and young adults ages 13-18 who are struggling with mental health challenges. The service provided by Futures is trauma-informed, strength-based, youth-guided, and family-driven. Futures employs culturally responsive practices and is embedded in the larger community. The program is also permanency-focused as it aims to help youth and young adults transition into adulthood and develop healthy relationships with safe, dependable adults that they can utilize as supports as they navigate daily life and reach important milestones.

Residential Counselors provide direct care and supervision to the youth and young adults served by the program. They help to empower the youth served through the use of a trauma informed care approach; utilizing such skills as compromising, negotiating, and problem solving. They help to keep the youth integrated into the community both locally and in their home towns. They also exhibit Open Sky’s commitment to racial equity, justice, diversity, and inclusion in the work they perform. Additionally, because they will be preparing meals to share with the youth, free food is an added perk.

This is a regular full-time, benefits-eligible position. Note: There may also be part-time roles available if interested.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Assist in the development of independent living skills for youth served by ensuring a supportive, nurturing, fun, and structured environment.
  • Provide role modeling, guidance, advocacy, and case management to the youth served by the program.
  • Assist in completing assessments, treatment plans, and other required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Prepare meals according to menu and share meal time with youth to further relationships.
  • Ability to plan and facilitate activities, treatment groups, and outings to places such as parks, attractions, sports, Six Flags, etc.
  • Provide transportation as needed to and from various community activities.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Alternative education/experience in lieu of formal education will be considered.
  • Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
  • Reliability, willingness to learn, and desire to promote a better living standard for youth and young adults living with a mental illness or behavioral challenges.
Open Sky will provide all required trainings including CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration (MAP), and de-escalation/restraint protocols (SOLVE). In the event of an emergency, must be able to physically restrain a youth.
