The Food Safety Specialist will be responsible for food safety, quality and regulatory compliance programs across the organization which includes but is not limited to our fleet, vendors, manufacturers, and supply chain distribution facilities as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards. You will assist in updating SOPs and food safety training and enforcing Sprouts Food Safety policies that comply with local, state, and federal guidelines. Additionally, you will assist the department with customer complaints, recall tracking and the CAPs compliance for the internal audit program, facilitating the completion of corrective actions and building partnerships for our various continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain policies and procedures to meet and exceed all local, state and federal regulatory standards
- Function as the SME for the Food Safety department on related trends, regulations, legislation, product sourcing, and FSMA/FSMA 204 compliance
- Develop, update, and implement Food Safety/GMP/SSOP directives
- Responsible for investigation of market withdrawal/recall of manufactured products and leads the event by coordinating of information to the fleet and confirming complete recovery
- Customer complaint management
- Perform additional projects and tasks assigned by the Food Safety Director as needed

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, sensory science, or public health preferred or a combination of education and a minimum of 5 years of industry-related experience equivalent
- Strong working knowledge of industry-specific Government Regulatory & Compliance requirements
- Quality assurance experience as it relates to manufacturing and supply chain preferred
- Specific knowledge of recall methodology and execution
- In-depth knowledge of FSMA
- Strong knowledge of Organic produce handling and distribution
- Possess strong oral & written communication skills
- Able to meet aggressive deadlines, and operational challenges
- Understand Lean Manufacturing principles, process evaluation, and action plan implementation
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
- Experience with the implementation of SAAS software systems
- Skilled in adult learning concepts with the ability to deliver effective relevant training and to write training materials, SOPs, and related food safety program development
- Must be able to work effectively with a team
- Clear understanding of GFSI audit standards, HACCP, and CAPA experience required
- Strong analytical skills to collect, synthesize and report on metrics
- Allergen awareness for food safety at store and through supply chain
